Everett Weekly 4.21.23
April 21, 2023
Dear Everett Families,
Happy Friday! This has been an exciting week and the fluctuating weather is a sign for us that summer is right around the corner. This means that fun is lurking as we countdown to the end of the school year. The fun will be kicked off with National Superhero Day next Friday, April 28. Channel your inner superhero and come to school ready to show off your superhero powers. Also, don't forget to bookmark our ABC Countdown that will begin on May 1.
I would like to extend a giant thank you to our Spirit of 67. You made Grant Day so incredibly special. Thank you for your generosity and support. There are so many fun events and resources coming for next year. Thank you, Spirit!!! Stay tuned for more information!
Lastly, please join me in thanking Stephanie Bell and the Hensley family for their generosity and hard work to host the APT Kindergarten Tea. Your home is beautiful, Stephanie. We can't wait to meet our newest Everett Eagles in the fall.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week for Family Sharing Night.
Best,
Renée

Spring MAP Testing
District 67 students in grades 2-8 will take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) during April 24-May 11. MAP is a Common Core-aligned, adaptive, computer-based assessment. This nationally normed assessment is designed to measure growth over time in the areas of reading and math. The district utilizes the achievement and growth data from MAP to inform instructional planning for individuals and groups of students; and measure growth from year-to-year. Also, please note that if a test is completed under 35 minutes, or rapid guessing is over 30%, we may ask a student to retake their test

Electric-Powered Scooter Safety Tips
With the weather warming, there has been an increase in electric-powered scooters around Lake Forest. While e-scooters are a fun way to travel, they can be dangerous. The Lake Forest Police Department has a few reminders for parents, guardians, and students about how to ride an e-scooter safely:
- Wear a helmet.
- Test the brakes. Make sure you know how to use the brakes and how long it takes to stop the e-scooter so you’re prepared for an emergency stop.
- Alert others and be seen. E-scooters are small, quick, and silent, making it difficult for others to spot you, especially in parking lots and structures. Expect vehicles and pedestrians to not see you; slow down, and plan ahead of time.
- Follow traffic rules. Please stop at stop signs and watch for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Ride solo. Only one person per e-scooter; additional riders can increase the risk and severity of collisions.
Find more safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
