School News You Can Use

January 2023

Note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

NYA family wishes you all a very happy and blessed new year 2023!

We all recognise that the world around us is changing at a pace that was never seen before. It is getting increasingly complex with the developments and challenges of nature and scale that we have not experienced ourselves. Research shows that ⅔ rds of the careers that our kids will get into have not been invented yet. So, there is no point preparing kids for careers, we need to prepare them for life. Schools must create productive citizens and leaders and good humans who are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century and are lauded for their skills, character and integrity and are self-driven to make a worthy impact on the world.

We at NYA recognise what the parents’ expectations are, what students’ needs are and what our responsibility as educators is. We understand that as the world is changing, the way we educate children must change too. We create an environment and develop instructional strategies that help the students learn to learn, reason critically, think creatively, work collaboratively and develop the capacity to produce innovative solutions to modern challenges. Apart from the core subjects of English Language Arts, Math, Science and Humanities, our focus is to develop all attributes of the IB Learner Profile which are also our School Wide Learner Outcomes.

We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.

We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.

We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.

We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.

We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.

We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognise our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

NYA is a happy school that instills a love of learning and makes everyone including the students and the teachers life-long learners so learning never stops.

Please welcome our PTA members. We look forward to working with our Parent Teacher Association to strengthen the school to home connection and improve the learning experience of all our students.

New York Academy has collaborated with Metamorphosis to bring the Business Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy programs for our students. This entrepreneurship-focused education program helps students prepare for the challenges they will face in college, careers, Financial Literacy and beyond. It helps them grow up to be more resilient, innovative, collaborative and independent.

Business Entrepreneurship

For all the aspiring entrepreneurs, this is an opportunity to acquire all the skill sets required for an entrepreneur.

Financial Literacy

The idea is to acquaint the students with terms related to finance used every day and help them build mathematical and financial decision-making skills.
