The Bully

Summary
In "The Bully", by Paul Langan, Darrell has to move away from everything he loves. He moves away from his best friend who had his back. Darrell moved to California, and he goes to Bluford High. Darrell is short, skinny and underweight. What he feared about, was happening. He was being bullied. He is tossed, thrown, made fun of. Then Darrell joins the wrestling team. He feels stronger in the inside and outside. He feels he can defeat Tyray and never have to deal with him anymore.
Character Analysis
Darrell is a short, skinny, underweight freshman. He has no inner confidence. Even worse, he is bullied. Tyray picks on him constantly and makes Darrell give Tyray his money. Darrell is just sick of it. So when he sees a Bluford High Wrestling Team flyer, Darrell decides that he'd better join. So he joins the team and begins to gain weight and muscles. He even grows a few inches. Then he has more inner confidence and defeats Tyray once and for all.

Paul Langan was born in Philadelphia in 1972. He grew up without a father and had to move to Southern New Jersey with his mom. In 1991, Paul enrolled at Camden County College and studied creative writing. He also earned a Bachelors of Art degree in English. Paul Langan was also a prison tutor for a period of time. He completed his Masters Degree while in the University of Pennsylvania. He is most known for his books such as The Gun, Summer of Secrets, and Blood is Thicker.
