Attendance
As we no longer use the paper attendance sheet for a double check on attendance, it is extremely important for you to notify the office immediately if you don't catch an absence or if you are late entering a student. By 9:30-10:00 we are done making our calls to parents who have not called in, and if it's entered after that the student goes unaccounted for the rest of the day. Thanks for your help! :)
Attendance Week- Important! Please read!
Can you believe it's Attendance Week next week?!
We have put together a week of fun activities to get our students psyched about coming to school! Please help us celebrate next week by sharing this information with your students and their parents! Our goal this year is to increase our average daily attendance to over 96.72%, so your help is greatly appreciated!!!
You will be receiving raffle tickets in your mailbox soon. Starting Monday, please give each student in your classroom who comes to school a raffle ticket. They will write their name on their raffle ticket each morning. Please collect your students' tickets each day. On Friday, please send all the tickets your students have earned to the office. We will be choosing names randomly out of the ticket bins at the end of the day to announce the winners!!! There will also be a whole-school winner announced on Friday!
The prizes will be secret until Friday! Students' curiosity will be piqued as they will be on display under a shroud of mystery located on the stage in the gym.
In addition, we will celebrate each day with a different dress up day!
Monday- Attendance Hero! Dress like a hero- Here Everyday, Ready On time!
Tuesday- Rock and Roll to School Day! - Wear your favorite rock and roll t-shirt or dress like a rock star and "roll" in to school on time every day!
Wednesday- Sports Team Day- Wear your favorite sports team gear! (no hats, please)
Thursday- Time Travel Day- Wear your favorite outfit from another time, past or future.
Friday- Roll out of bed and come to school! Wear your pajamas to school!
Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
International Dot Day!
This is a day/week celebrating creativity and collaboration centered around the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds.
The website http://www.thedotclub.org/dotday/get-started is filled with all kinds of ideas for the week...free posters, free educator's resource guide, and lots of activities to do. Let's get as many of our classrooms registered for International Dot Day as we can. Even if you aren't introducing a full-fledged Genius Hour yet, this is a great way to get the kids excited about the new program and thinking creatively. With whole school participation, just think of how much fun we could have!
On the website, there are a lot of resources for extending the learning from the book. There's a live streamed event on the 13th at noon that I'm hoping to have my class participate in that will "take students beyond classroom walls and into some of the world's most iconic locations for rich and immersive learning experiences - no permission slips required!"
Let us know if your class is participating by signing up on the following sheet

TESTING- MAP and AIMS
Testing is set to begin this week. A couple things to consider:
1. AIMSweb- Hopefully you administered AIMSweb Math probes this week. As soon as your students are done and you've graded the assessments, please enter your students' AIMSweb MCOMP and MCAP scores into the google doc that I shared with you a few weeks ago.
We will be starting AIMSweb oral reading testing in the library next Monday the 11th. We will use a team approach. Please let me know if you are able to help in the library during library times... We could use everyone's help--- who is everyone? Everyone is title I teachers & title I paras, ELL, Special education teachers, paraprofessionals, Speech teachers, Social Workers, Psychologist, Principal, and any others available.
When should the AIMSweb oral reading probes be done? September 11-18 with makeups September 19-22.
2. NWEA/MAP- Our original plan was to have teachers test students on the devices in their classrooms. We realize that this is a change and it's going to take some time for us to be ready for this. Therefore, we have decided to test in the computer lab for Fall "the old fashioned way." :) You will want to work and coordinate with Peggy/Michelle to determine a Reading and Math testing time for next week. The week of the 22-27 is designated for make up testing.
We will work to transition to testing in classrooms for Winter and Spring. Again, please enter MAP scores into the Google doc that was shared with you once testing is completed.
I shared three private Google data files with each classroom teacher. All testing data will be entered into the spreadsheets located in the folder. :) Please let me know if you have not received the links to the Google docs.
Thank you so much, and please let me know if you have any questions.
MATH CHATS!!!
She is looking forward to working with us this year at the Big Hollow Math Chats. During this time we will have a chance to collaborate, explore Eureka materials, plan, and enjoy math. Grades kindergarten through eighth will have the opportunity to work together and learn more about the Eureka curriculum tool. Light snacks and water will be provided. The Big Hollow Math Chats will be held on the third Tuesday of the month, from 4-5:00 PM at the District Office - Middle School Library. Those dates will include: Teachers will receive 1 hour of CPDU credit and 1 hour stipend. Recycling- PLEASE READ!!!
This year we will be enhancing our recycling program. We need your help! There will be new recycling containers placed in your classrooms. We need to avoid throwing items in the garbage if they can be recycled.
Students will need some help determining what is recyclable and what is not when placing items in your classroom bins. Attached is a flyer that I was hoping you could all share with your students on Tuesday to help facilitate this.
Every night, we will be asking the cleaning company to empty your classroom bins into the large recycling bins in the pods. Those will then be taken to the bins outside in back of the school.
