Food Deserts
What is a food desert?
How Many?
There are over 23.5 million people located in food deserts. Residents of food deserts are low income citizens. Most of the people in these food deserts are African American. These areas have little to no healthy produce. They have to walk over a mile to get healthy food.
Fast Food Companies Take Advantage
People who live in food deserts usually eat only fast food. They can't get to grocery stores, because fast food companies have filled up the available land to build on. They target people based on their income. Many of the residents located in food deserts aren't aware of it until they learn what one is. This means they don't know the condition they are in.
