Geiger Counter

Accomplishments and Interesting Information

  • Hans Geiger worked with Ernest Rutherford and aided him in discovering the nucleus.
  • Hans invented a device called the Geiger Counter which can detect and measure alpha particles, beta particles, and gamma rays.
  • This counter is extrodinarily accurate and is still used today.
  • Hans Geiger also worked breifly on the German atomic bomb project during WW2.
  • After the creation of the counter around 1931, he took to studying cosmic rays.
