From the Principal's Desk

Greetings Hillcrest Families!

Well, that went fast! We have finished a successful first month of school and are on to the fun and event-filled month of October!

Our teachers and staff have spent the past month building relationships with our students with the goal of every child feeling a sense of belonging in their classroom and an understanding of their roles and responsibilities at school. You have truly gifted us with your amazing, talented, and kind kids!

We have some fantastic events happening at Hillcrest this month, including our Green Apple Day of Service, our Scholastic Book Fair, a School Spirit Week, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and the return of Boo Bingo Family Fun Night. Looks like October is going to be a "spooktacular" month for our Herons!

As always, thank you for your support as part of our education team!

Hillcrest: A Building of Relationships

Big picture

As a National Green Ribbon School and Washington State Green School, Hillcrest Elementary is committed to giving back and caring for our community -- #OneOakHarbor. One way we do this is through the Green Apple Day of Service. This year we are pleased to offer two locations for families to participate.

Join us on Saturday, October 1, 2022, as Hillcrest students, their families, and our staff join forces with the Garry Oak Society to plant more Garry Oaks in our very own Heron Grove at Joseph Whidbey State Park. We will also be doing some clearing of the trails and possibly some cutting of overgrown blackberry patches.

We will also have staff on-site at Hillcrest as we clean up our Hillcrest Community Garden (just inside our playground entrance) for fall and winter.

Both events run from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Choose your location! We look forward to seeing our students and families.

Please bring work gloves, shovels, or other garden tools.

It's Time to Turn in Fundraiser Packets

čŹéThank you so much for supporting our annual Fall Fundraiser!

Please check out these important notes regarding the end of sales and the return of fundraising order packets:

  • Online sales end today at 4:00 PM
  • Paper sales continue through this weekend
  • All fundraising packets are due Monday morning, October 3, at the first bell

Impact Aid Cards Due Oct. 4

The Federal Impact Aid Program Survey will be sent home to parents/guardians on October 3, 2022, and must be completed by October 4, 2022. Only one parent/guardian must complete the information and a survey for each student is required. This information is vital because it determines how much Impact Aid funding Oak Harbor Public Schools receives from the federal government.
