All you need to know about DeMello...

Hello DeMello Families!

It seems as if we just returned from the holiday break and here we are finishing out the last full week of January! What a week it has been!

The week actually began last Sunday with our DeMello family outing to the Amica Mutual Pavillion to see the Providence Bruins play. Thanks to the DeMello PTO for organizing this event which was fun for all!

On Monday, we welcomed The Mad Scientist to DeMello for FUN assemblies all about the magic (and science, of course!) of air pressure. The students were beyond thrilled with this entertaining production and learned quite a bit of science in the process! We hope your child came home and told you all about it! Thanks again to our PTO for this wonderful experience. We hope to get the Mad Scientist back to DeMello soon for more.

This week also marked the launch of our 5th Grade Student Council's annual food drive to restock the Dartmouth Council on Aging's food pantry. We are excited to see many canned goods and other needed items filling our collection boxes! We will keep you updated on how the drive is going. Please see the attached flyer for information on what is needed and THANK YOU in advance for your care and generosity.

Finally, we had a great time watching our first through fifth graders participate in our weekly, inter-grade STEM teams. Mrs. Voci challenged today's teams with the task of moving a toy car in a straight line across a table without touching it! Students used various materials to achieve this goal and were seen communicating and collaborating throughout the process.

The DeMello Staff and I are already looking ahead to some fun events planned for the next weeks and months. In the meantime, we hope you all had a wonderful week and wish you a restful weekend with your wonderful children!

Illnesses and Attendance

We all know that many viruses have arrived this winter, affecting both students and staff alike. While we are thankful to our families who keep their students home when sick, we want to remind everyone that students may return to school when they are feeling better and have been fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT taking fever reducing drugs. If at all possible, please provide Nurse Rachael with a doctor's note upon your student's return and call her with any questions.

Because we know that many students are missing school due to illnesses, we want to stress the importance of your child being in school when they are well. If at all possible, please do not plan family vacations and outings on school days. The research is very clear on the negative impact of children missing school. If you do need to take your student out of school for non-illness related reasons, please contact Mrs. Correia in advance. Thank you.

Love Is in the Air...

With the approach of February comes thoughts of Valentines and full hearts. And, once again, our PTO is bringing love to DeMello through their Spread the Love fundraiser! Please see the attached flyer for more information and thanks again for your support of our school through PTO fundraising!
