A Principal's Perspective
The Super Bowl is coming up next weekend, Sunday, February 2nd! By now you may have heard of the assistant coach for the San Francisco 49er's, Katie Sowers. Watch the commercial below that gives you some background of her early childhood dreams of being on a real football team. After college, she successfully played in the quarterback position with the Women's Football Alliance and then in 2013 for Team USA. Through an internship with the San Francisco 49ers coaching team, she began to realize her dream of coaching in the NFL. She became the assistant coach in 2017 helping the offensive players on the team. Want to know more about Coach Sowers? Check out the article at this link where you will find information about what she looks for in a player to be successful (coachable, motivated) and her journey to make her dreams happen ("To prove her value to the team, she says she didn’t depend on others to teach her things. She took initiative and responsibility for where she wanted to be, something her father taught her when she was younger."). The headline quote from the article ("Sowers’s goal was to coach in the NFL and she achieved it through hard work and seeing opportunities where others didn’t.") is a great motivator for us as educators and for our students. Her story is a reminder to us to remember that each of our students have hopes and dreams for their future. Many of these dreams may seem improbable, unrealistic and even outlandish. What do we do each and every day to prepare our students for the workforce with careers that are not even a job description today? How do we foster dreams that may seem unthinkable today but just maybe not tomorrow? As an educator, how do you spark and kindle a dream?

Staff Shout Out:
Congratulations Julie Tutt mom of Charlie Tutt who was born Monday, January 20th. Mom and baby Charlie are doing great!
From My Tell Me Something Good Link: "Sarah Rhine’s commitment to the individual needs of her students is apparent in everything she does! I am so impressed with her smoothly run Guided Math rotations, her ability to plan differentiated small group math lessons that reach every student, and how she uses data to guide her intervention groups, too! She just finished her MAPS testing and has already used it to monitor previous goals (growth was made in that area for all!!) and to make new goals and groups, too. She is quiet and unassuming, but she is really an AMAZING teacher!!"
