SPS Family Update: September 3

Technology distribution, registration, WiFi devices & more

Happy September, SPS!

Happy September to all of our SPS families. We recognize that this school year will look unlike any other, but we're excited for the 2020-21 school year nonetheless and are preparing to provide the best education possible for all students. Please find here information about technology pickup, portable wifi distribution, school bus transportation information and more. As always, feel free to reach out to the district at any time for more information.

Technology pickup

Technology pickup information varies by grade level (and school in some cases). Families who have enrolled for the 2020-21 should receive information directly from their school about technology pickup. In most cases, students should head to their “home school” or the school they were enrolled at last school year to pick up their technology device and supplies. Siblings can pick up all devices on a single day at the same time.

Parents and students should reach out directly to their school for more information.

Students who are new to the district this year and have enrolled in SPSOnline should receive information about technology pickup from SPSOnline in the next few days. Technology pickup for NEW SPSOnline students will take place next week.

ICYMI: Springfield School using federal CARES Act dollars to install air purifiers

ICYMI: Springfield Public Schools is currently working to install air purifiers in each of its schools. All installations will be complete and ready for school to begin Sept. 14!

Springfield Public Schools is utilizing federal CARES Act funding to purchase air purifiers for each of its 22 schools. The plan is to have the air purifiers, which cost about $250,000, installed at buildings before in-person school begins.

The iWave air purifiers are installed in heating and air conditioning systems and work to kill mold, bacteria and viruses and allow for clean air to circulate instead. The purifiers also work to reduce odors, allergens, smoke and dust particles.

The purifiers will help with the district’s mission to ensure safe and healthy learning spaces for students and staff when they return to school.
