Attention Boys & Ghouls - It's Time for Harvest Fest!
Mark your calendar for October 17th! Harvest Fest is back and will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. We are looking forward to another spooktalular fest! As always there will be games, crafts, stories and the infamous cake walk!
Do you have a Couple Dollars and an Hour? That’s all it would take to make two cakes. Really. Get in touch with your creative side and make a cake for the cake walk. This is a huge favorite for the kids and families of Central so we need lots of cakes. One box of cake can go a long way. Imagine all the things you can make with a round cake pan... An array of different pumpkin faces, a mummy’s face, a scarecrow face, a dracula face, a cat face, a spider, a web with a small spider, a baseball, a basketball or a soccer ball. With a square cake 8x8 pan you could make a Frankenstein face, a baseball diamond or cut the cake in half and make two candy corns. With a rectangle 9x13 pan try a basketball court, football and/or soccer field, a tombstone or create your own creepy scene (all the while remembering, this is a kids party of course).
One box cake really does go a long way. You can evenly distribute your batter to fill up two round pans and one square pan. While the cakes are baking, take a piece of cardboard, put aluminum foil around it and use that as your ‘plate’. Once the cakes have cooled, put one round cake on each cardboard, then cut the square cake diagonally. Place the diagonal piece above the round cake and make a witch face with a hat on. You can buy white icing, separate it into bowls and color it whatever color you need for whatever you decide to do. If you don’t have icing tips, put the color you need in a small zip lock baggie, cut a very tiny piece off of the edge of the bag and squirt out your icing to make a web, letters, eyeballs or whatever. You will be really surprised how simple it is. Last year will be hard to top but I know you have it in you! The kids LOVED all the ‘cool’ and ‘creepy’ cakes! Make it a fun project you do with your kids, they will LOVE it!!!!
Just a few friendly reminders...
The Harvest Festival is for Central Families only
All Children MUST be accompanied by an adult
Please wear tennis shoes for safety on the stairs
NO toy weapons of any kind
Earn $$$ For Our School...The Easy Way
Money... It makes the world go ’round—or so they say. There are several, simple ways you can help us raise money for our school and it won’t cost you a thing. One way is do what you normally do. Shop. Target gives back a percentage of your purchases to our school. Also, you can turn in Box Tops and Campbell soup labels. Box Tops earn us cash and Campbell Labels earn us products for our school. Since Fall is here, you’ll need some
soup to warm the tummies of your children after they rake your whole lawn. (Ha,
Ha) Then, there’s the holidays, and that means shopping. Imagine how much we
could earn for our school from the purchases of all of the Central School families that
shop at Target this holiday season. Hmmmmm The good thing about the holidays is you get to eat, andeat, and eat. In order to do that you need to shop, shop and shop.
Target—Or Tarjee’ as some like to call it. First, we would like to extend a HUGE Thank You for those of you who are already participating in this program. The Target program is called TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION. Friends and family members can give as well. All you need to do to have a percentage sent to our school is:
1. Have a target RED card (i.e. Target Visa, Target Credit or Target Check/Debit Card)
2. Enroll in the TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION PROGRAM by:
-Enrolling Online at Target.com/tcoe
-Enrolling at the Kiosk at the store (it’s the same computer you use to print out a registry)
-Calling 1-800-316-6142
When you enroll, just let them know you want 1% of your purchase to go to Central Elementary in VALPO. Our school number is 50542.
Campbell’s Soup Labels—Campbell’s has several products that can earn points for our school. A list of these products is attached. Collecting labels allows us to order many unique items for the students through a Campbell’s Catalog. We can order items for recess, educational products for the classroom or something fun for Field Day.
Box Tops for Education—Box Tops ‘coupons’ are on several items. Each Box Top coupon is worth $.10, which adds up fast. A list of all items with Box Top coupons is attached. The Box Tops are collected monthly and sent in. We receive a check for the amount of Box Tops we turn in. All proceeds from Box Tops goes to our Student Council. Our student council does many wonderful service projects in our community.
So, go shopping, sharpen your scissors and, help out our school!!! Thank you in advance to all our GREAT families who do SO much for us! You are SO appreciated!!!!
