# November Math News

### 3rd Grade

## What are we learning this month?

In November, we begin to dig into fractions as well as using addition and subtraction to read and create graphs. We also begin to deal with metric measurement this month. See below for all the standards and links to videos that demonstrate each standard.

- 3.NF.A.1 - Understand a fraction is made out of a denominator which is how many equal pieces it's broken into
- 3.NF.A.2 - Use number lines to represent and compare fractions
- 3.NF.A.3 - Generate and understand equivalent fractions
- 3.MD.A.1 - Tell time to the nearest minute. Solve problems involving elapsed time.
- 3.MD.B.4 - Generate measurement data by using a ruler - measuring to the nearest fourth inch
- 3.OA.D.8 - Solve two-step word problems
- 3.MD.A.2 - Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses in metric units (g, kg, L, mL)
- 3.MD.B.3 - Draw a scaled picture graph and bar graph and solve word problems based on the graphs

## Fractions on a Number Line Students need to be able to identify that the number line has equal parts representing fractional pieces of a whole. | ## Equivalent Fractions Students need to be able to identify if a fraction is equivalent or not and make their own equivalent fractions. | ## Elapsed Time We use number lines to show jumps in time. |

## Fractions on a Number Line

Students need to be able to identify that the number line has equal parts representing fractional pieces of a whole.

## Equivalent Fractions

Students need to be able to identify if a fraction is equivalent or not and make their own equivalent fractions.
