SHS Weekly Newsletter #1
Message from Mr. Mitchell
HERE WE GO! We are excited to begin our new school year next week!
Our staff have returned to the building and are deep into preparing for students on Thursday and Friday. We have already engaged in professional development around building relationships, intentional student support, academic rigor, continual instructional improvement, safety and security, and staff collaboration. It is refreshing and energizing to be intensely focused on improving students and staff as learners again!
If you can, please join us for our Open House on Tuesday, 8/30, from 12:30pm-8pm for a chance to tour the building, see where your classes will be, check-out your Chromebook, pay fees, etc. This is a very informal event and there is nothing occurring that cannot be taken care of during the first days of school. We hope to see you then.
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!

Parking Permit Information
Applications are now being processed. If your student has submitted an application, please check your students fees to see if their application as been approved. Once the fee has been paid the permit will be issued and your student will be notified.
Seniors and Juniors who wish to park on campus for the 22/23 school year can begin the application process now. A major change for this year is that the North/lower lot will be reserved for permitted Senior students only. All other permitted student parking will be in the upper two west lots. The applications will be processed in the order they are received. The application may only be accessed from the student's school Google account. The parking permit fee will be added to student accounts on August 23 and permits will be available for pickup when payment is made. Students may apply for a permit during the school year, but if the number of permits already sold is more than the number of available parking spots, the student will be placed on the permit waitlist. The sophomore class will be eligible to apply for the remaining parking permits on October 3, 2022, please watch for additional information.
Student Chromebook Check-Out
Students in grades 9 and 10 will be automatically assigned a locker number and combination that they can access in Synergy. Students in grades 11 and 12 may check out a locker if they wish by coming in to SHS main office during the open house on August 30th or once school begins.

StudentVue and ParentVue are the way in which students and parents can view grades and attendance information in Synergy. Students are encouraged to check their grades through StudentVue at least weekly. By checking weekly, students will have a good grasp of their current progress in all of their classes. Parents are encouraged to check student grades and attendance through ParentVue at least 1-2 times per month. By checking frequently, parents can hold students accountable for their grades and attendance throughout the year.
Parents are asked to login to ParentVue and check the accuracy of the parent contact information and emergency contacts. If you have any changes that need to be made, please email SHSsynergyupdates@sherwood.k12.or.us with what ParentVue currently says and the updated information. By including both what it currently says and what it should be changed to, we can verify that the person changing the information already has access to the account.

Student Pick-up During School, Reporting Student Absences
If you need to pick up your student during school hours, it would be greatly appreciated if you would notify the attendance office in advance, using one of the methods below.
Send your student with a signed note from the parent/guardian and have the student exchange it for a "release from class" pass at the attendance window, before school or during a passing time.
Call (503) 825-6010 or email (SherwoodHigh_Notification@sherwood.k12.or.us) the Attendance Secretary in advance. A note will be sent to release your student at the time requested.
We realize that unforeseen circumstances may arise when you need your student released as soon as possible. We do our best to accommodate this, however, it may or may not be done as quickly as requested.
Please call (503) 825-6010 to report all excused absences, preferably in the morning of the day the student is absent. All unverified absences must be excused within 48 hours of the absence. You may also email the Attendance office at SherwoodHigh_Notification@sherwood.k12.or.us Please include a phone number we can call to verify the absence if needed. The automated system generates calls/emails at 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to notify parents of unverified absences. All absences must be excused within 48 hours. The 48 hour window begins at 8:00 am on the day of the student's absence and ends at 8:00 am, 48 hours later. Any absence not excused within the 48 hour window will be considered unexcused. No exceptions!
