Dear RQMS Families:
It was exciting to welcome our new, and some of our veteran staff back this week to learn about the Quist ROYALS way. We are one week closer to having our Royals back in the building and we can’t wait!
Be sure to look out for the news next week for more information about our upcoming Back to School Night on August 19th from 5:30p - 7:00p. In this week’s news, we share information about
- Student Orientation / Schedules
- Overview of what students can expect in a typical day
- Athletics & Activities Updates
Temporary Office Closure: On August 3rd from 12:30p to 4p, and August 6th from 7:30a to 12:30p our main office will be closed while staff attends mandatory training. We will follow up on all messages within 24 hours.

Student Orientation / Schedules
7th and 8th grade Orientation: As mentioned last week, we will have a half day orientation for 8th graders, (8/10) and 7th graders (8/11) from 8:30 - 11:00 am. Students will be able to access their schedule starting Friday, 8/6, after 4:00 pm through Infinite Campus. When students arrive at school on orientation day, they can go straight to their Pathways teacher. We will have staff at the main entrance able to help students find their way as well as know their Pathways teacher in the event students can’t access Infinite Campus. While in their classes, they will get a paper copy of their schedule. Remember, no lunch will be served that day.
6th Grade Orientation: All sixth grade students will have a full day orientation starting at 8:30 on Wednesday, 8/11. When students arrive they will enter through our main entrance and move into the gym for a quick assembly and then move to the other planned activities. Students will get their paper schedule that day. Students do not need to bring their supplies or anything with them on that day unless they need a jacket. They should wear comfortable clothes and shoes, as they will be walking all around the building as well as participating in recess on that day. Lunch will be provided.
Overview of what students can expect in a typical day
While significantly closer this year, we are not back to 100% typical middle school.
All students will be in multiple cohort groups to help with contact tracing as necessary.
Their first cohort group will be with their core content classes (Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Pathways classes.) They will be able to keep their belongings in that room and will not use lockers.
They will pass from their cohort room and join their second cohort group for their first exploratory class. (These were assigned based on request and space availability.)
Their third cohort group will be their second exploratory class.
Students will sit with one of these cohorts while eating in the cafeteria based on their grade level’s schedule. They will be able to play freely while they are outside during recess.
I am sure you received Dr. Fiedler’s letter concerning our district Return to School Plan this week. If you missed it, you can access it here. If there are any changes to this information, Dr. Fiedler will send it out to all families.
