Individualized Instruction
Data, Teacher Flex, Centers, OH MY!
STAR Data
After your class has taken the STAR go into reports and examine the following data:
State Standards Class: Above, Within, Below (You will use this for your "Data Wall")
Instructional Planning Class: Group students into 3 or 4 groups according to their scores
Print the Instructional Planning report for each group (You will use this for your Teacher Flex Table)
**You can also drill it all the down to each student
Data Wall
Make three columns: Above, Within, Below. You will take the STAR report, cut it apart according to standards, in the three levels, then tape them under one of the three headings (Above, Within, Below). I would list the standards down the left side.
The students that are below in each of the standards should have at least three touches on the standard a week. You may need to focus on one of those standards each week.
Your "Data Wall" will change each time you give the STAR, hopefully the below list for each standard shrinks each time!
This is a great visual to see all the hard work you and your students are doing! You may want to color code it, date when a student masters a standard, etc. Make it your own!
Teacher Flex Table
Example lesson: Main Idea & Details
Discuss the definition, then have the students label the table: Explain that the top of the table is like the Main Idea and the legs are the details because they hold the table up.
After the students actually "see" this illustration complete a Main Idea sheet with them. Work along with them, answer any questions they have.
Centers Around the Room or Seat Centers
Either of these types of centers should only contain review materials. This is a must... do NOT put anything in a center that has only been introduced or taught a few times. The centers need to contain ELA materials if it's Reading Flex and Math materials if it's Math Center time etc.
Vocabulary, Library, Listening, Word Sort, Grammar, and Writing are just a few of the centers that would be beneficial for ELA. All centers should be directly related to an OAS standard.
Get Organized!
How do you organize the students work? Each student should have a Center Folder..
What do the students do when they have completed a center? Each student should have a library book with them.
