What is Domestic Violence?
Nearly 5.3 million intimate partner violence occur each year among U.S. women ages 18 and older. This violence results in nearly 2 million injuries and nearly 1,300 deaths (CDC 2003). Although domestic violence can happen to anyone it is most commonly happens to people below or at poverty line. When something like domestic violence occurs physical damage isn't the only thing that happens, many people who are assaulted suffer from depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and even worse have suicidal thoughts or actions.
Who does my injustuce affect
Domestic violence occurs in every culture, country, and age group. It affects people from all socioeconomic, educational, and religious backgrounds and happens in both same-sex and male/female relationships.
The majority of victims of domestic violence are women, although men can also be victimized.
Women that are more vulnerable like teens, immigrants, gays, bisexual, transgender, people with disabilities, elderly women, and employees/colleagues are most likely to experience domestic violence.
