Principal Porter's Message

We have had a fabulous first couple of weeks of school. Please make sure you monitor your child's grade using Powerschool. Please let the office know if you need assistance.

Great attendance is essential in order for your child to be successful in school. K-3 all begin their Reading Block at 9:00. When your child is tardy he/she misses out on core curriculum and disrupts the learning environment for the other classmates. Please read the information below on attendance.

Car rider numbers must be displayed when picking your child up from school. This is for the safety of your child. If you need a new number, then please contact the front office.

Parents should follow the absence reporting procedures outlined in your child's planner. Parents should call their child’s school to verify all absences. Parents should inform the school if their child is truant.

If your child is suspected of being truant or has been identified as having an excessive number of absences and/or tardies, you may be contacted by the staff of the Attendance Department. This contact may be by letter, phone, or a home visit. A conference may also need to be held with you to discuss the situation.

Students with severe ongoing attendance problems or repeated truancies may be referred to the:

Clark County Absence Review Panel,
Clark Superior 1 Probation Department or
Child Protective Services for possible action.
Actions may include meeting with the Clark County Absence Review Panel, suspension of a student’s drivers license or the ability to obtain one, termination of a work permit or the ability to obtain one, being placed on probation, or arrest.

Parents of these students may be referred to:

Child Protective Services (CPS),
the Clark County Absence Review Panel, or
the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office.
Parents can face charges through the Prosecutor’s Office, a CPS investigation, or reduction in their state aid.

5th Graders- PRIDE Work Ethic Certification

This is the first year our 5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Work Ethic Certification program. It is our hope that many of the 5th graders will accept the challenge to earn the certificate. The criteria for earning the certificate are rigorous and we are currently working to establish an incentive program that would both recognize and reward those students who earn this certificate. We hope you will join us in encouraging your child to participate in this program. Please read the letter and the PRIDE Work Ethic Certificate Expectation sheet that was sent home with your child last week.

Student Council: 3rd-5th Grade Students

Campaigning will begin Monday, with elections on Wednesday, September 9th. Please watch for forms to be sent home this week. Elections will be held on September 9th.

We need more volunteers- Communities In Schools of Clark County

We are currently looking for 3,2,1 Read volunteers for the 2015/2016 school year. If you have an hour a week, you can make a huge impact on the life of a child! Sadly, the number of 3,2,1 volunteers has declined in recent years, so we need volunteers now more than ever! It is a fantastic program and we really want to keep it going strong, so if you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact the CISCC office at 280-0028.

Pleasant Ridge Elementary is excited to announce that Sheila Kingery will be working at Pleasant Ridge. She is a retired teacher, and will be a tremendous asset to our school. If you have any questions about the 3,2,1 read program or would like to volunteer. Please send Sheila Kingery an e-mail at skingery@gcs.k12.in.us.
