CASA presents to NASA
Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, Columbia Aeronautics and Space Association students presented their HUNCH competition designs to NASA engineering representatives, Glenn Johnson, Gene Gordon and Thomas DeMichael.
The NASA HUNCH mission is to empower and inspire through a Project-Based Learning program where high school students learn 21st-Century skills and have the opportunity to launch their careers through participation in the design and fabrication of real-world valued products. Unfortunately, none of the CPS CASA teams were selected as finalists in the NASA HUNCH design competition, but all three of the CASA teams were recognized.

April 5 Election • CPS No-Tax-Rate Increase Bond Issue—Directly Benefits CACC
The $80 million bond includes $15 million for an addition and facility renovation at CACC. Above is a rendering of the proposed renovation.
Did you know...
- Student enrollment has increased by more than 1,500 students in the last 10 years; another 1,000 students are projected over the next five years.
- 18,527 students PreK-12 are enrolled, making CPS the 5th largest school district in Missouri.
- To date, the school district has eliminated 153 trailers. In 2006, there were 173 trailers in use; today there are 20.
- There are 39 school buildings and 3 support facilities.
- The district maintains 3.56 million square feet of building space and 1.9 million square feet of roof space.
- More than half the buildings are 40 years old or older. Only six schools are less than 10 years old.

DECA Qualifies Students for International Competition
CACC is proud to announce the DECA Missouri State Development Conference results from March 13-15 in Kansas City, Missouri. More than 1,800 students from around the state competed in the event. Students who finish at the top of each event advance to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from April 22 to April 27. To view a list of students, visit this link.

Missouri School Board Association’s Student Showcase
CACC Students Chase Knorr, William Hose, Hannah Brees and Eleanor Hartle and teacher Mr. Mann attended the 2022 Missouri School Board Association’s ‘Public School Student Showcase’ event at the State Capitol in Jefferson City. The students demonstrated the CACC built Augmented Reality Sandbox.
An AR sandbox is a 3D, interactive, dynamic educational tool to help understand mapping, topography, watersheds, natural hazards and more. This tool uses a motion sensor and specialized computer software to map contour lines (lines of equal elevation) onto the sand that adjust to the elevated levels of the sand in real-time.
Educator Rising Student Organization Qualifies Students for National Competition
Columbia Area Career Center is proud to announce the 2022 Educators Rising Missouri Competition results, held March 8-9, 2022. In June, the top ten state winners in each competition are eligible to compete at the Educators Rising National Conference. Mrs. Regina Greenplate is the instructor and advisor for the local chapter.
