Perfect Monsters
Third, fourth, and fifth graders at Westridge used design thinking and find-filter-apply to create the perfect monster for a partner. The activity took place after librarian Anne Reed read Marilyn's Monster (another Show-Me nominee) to the kids. Students interviewed each other to get all the details about their partner's perfect monster and then used the info to create that monster using paper, feathers, stickers, markers, felt, etc.

History Detectives
Second-grade students at Woerther analyzed photos, a zoo record card, and other primary sources to learn more about the real Winne the Pooh. Using an "I See, I Think, I Wonder" graphic organizer, students recorded the evidence they saw in the artifacts, the inferences they made, and the questions they had. Then listened to a reading of the book Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh and connected the documents to the story. Librarian Laura Clar reports the children LOVED being history detectives!
