Daniel Wright Junior High School E-Notice - April 23, 2021
We are excited to offer a new program to eighth-grade students at Daniel Wright Junior High School. The PreVenture program is provided to us by our local Stand Strong Coalition and the Stevenson High School Catalyst drug/alcohol prevention program.
PreVenture was originally developed and tested by Dr. Patricia Conrod, a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal, as a program for helping at-risk youth. Tested around the world, the PreVenture program has shown significant results with regards to reducing risky behavior and helping young people to make better short and long term decisions. PreVenture provides your child with motivational pathways and techniques that not only help them to understand their choices, but that also promote their mental wellbeing and health.
A PreVenture survey is administered by a trained facilitator in a supportive and comfortable environment. Our facilitators are Debbie Dubin and Kristen Carruthers, two of our Daniel Wright social workers. The survey identifies program eligible students and their unique personality profiles. With parent consent, eligible students participate in two confidential, 90-minute group workshops to help them understand the connection between their personality and their behaviors, as well as a healthy decision-making framework that is aligned with state educational standards in Physical Education and Health, and Social and Emotional Learning. These group workshops will be facilitated by our Daniel Wright social workers, who are PreVenture-trained.
Students will complete the 5-minute screener during their morning advisory period on Tuesday, April 27. If your child is eligible for programming, you will be notified of workshop dates and times. In addition, we will share a consent form for program participation.
We hope you are as excited as we are to begin the PreVenture program! This data-driven, evidence-based program will assist in preparing your child for the transition to Adlai E. Stevenson High School and will maximize your child’s future potential. If you would like to learn more, please visit the PreVenture For Parents website or if you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in the PreVenture survey, please email Melody Littlefair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
