Attire and other Notes:
Monday: Casual attire
- Monday Meatball Scramble - break is substantial for lunch if they arrive with no time to eat lunch. Break is at 2:15.
- If possible, plan to arrive at #TSPRA20 in time to enjoy break with your rookie from 2:15-2:45 and begin the Goose Chase missions
- Invite your rookie to attend the “meet and greet” reception with you as this is the official kick-off for the conference! You will have a free beverage ticket to offer them if the two of you show up for the initial meeting between conference caddies and rookies at 4:00.
Tuesday: District Day
- Wear a favorite district or school shirt (jeans are appropriate)
- Explain that the Tuesday general session includes a keynote speaker, member recognitions and presentation of professional awards.
- “Grab and Go” breakfast tacos will be available while supply lasts.
- There will be designated vendor viewing in the morning (with coffee) and in the afternoon. The afternoon break includes food.
- Lunch is on your own. The website has a list of nearby eateries. Lunch is scheduled from 12:15 – 2:00 allowing sufficient time to leave the hotel if desired.
- Invite them to the Blackboard Welcome Reception and share how to get the beverage tickets at this event. This is only a one-hour event!
Wednesday: Sports Day + Crazy Socks
- Wear a favorite golf shirt or sports team shirt (jeans are appropriate) and crazy socks
- Caps will be provided by Peachjar so you may want to sport your caps
- Prizes will be given to the “best” crazy socks. Watch for more information on this.
- February 25, 2020, is Ash Wednesday. Meatless lunch options are available upon written request by February 17. Email request to info@tspra.org. A list of nearby churches is available at http://www.tspra.org/conferences-and-events/annual-conference/2020-conference-churches. We totally expect members to leave for Ash Wednesday services throughout the day.
- Explain the popular Roundtable session. There are 45 roundtables so study the list in advance because there is time to visit only four of them.
- There will be designated vendor viewing in the morning (with coffee) and in the afternoon with food.
- Explain that the President’s Luncheon is when the new president and officers are installed and that professional awards recipients are announced. Attendees will sit at rounds with ten per table.
- Star Awards Banquet o Business or Cocktail attire expected
- A reception takes place from 6:00-7:00 with complimentary beverages. Explain how to receive beverage tickets.
- Explain that photos are taken of Star Award recipients and members need to look professional as these photos are often shared at board meetings and in local newspapers
- There will also be a selfie-wall for photos that evening
- Intrado SchoolMessenger hosts an after-celebration complete with live band and dessert buffet (explain that dessert is not served with the meal and is part of the after-celebration). This event goes until 11:00 p.m.

- Star Awards Banquet requires an extra ticket ($75). Tickets may be available for purchase on site on a first-come-first-served basis. It is best to purchase tickets in advance to assure entry.
- Transportation from Sonesta Hotel will be provided for Star Awards Banquet. Watch for more information on this and announcements during the general sessions.
Thursday: #TSPRA20 #TSPRAconnect
- Wear the 2020 official TSPRA t-shirt to breakfast.
- Group photo is made that appears on the TSPRA Facebook page for a year.
- Get your 2020 t-shirt at the School Revenue booth beginning Monday afternoon; sizes available first-come, first-served.
- Explain that the General Membership Meeting is a business meeting to share TSPRA financials and an update on the state of the organization. If any bylaws changes are being proposed, voting takes place during this meeting.
- Everyone is encouraged to complete the paper evaluation. There will be a drawing at noon for a $100 HEB card

Results from our 2019-2020 SASPRA Membership Survey indicate the group would like to meet for SASPRA Meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Please save the dates for our upcoming SASPRA Meetings:
March 18, 2020 - Somerset ISD
April 8, 2020 - Southside ISD
May 13, 2020 - Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, 9:30 am - 11:30 am
June 10, 2020 - Edgewood ISD
July 8, 2020 - Uvalde CISD
Meeting times are set for 9:00 am - 11:00 am unless other arrangements have been made.

2021 Teacher of the Year Application
Please share the information below with the representative overseeing the Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year in your district.
The 2021 Texas Teacher of the Year application will be posted online at the TASA website by February 15, opening nominations by school districts/charter operators.
Only the official District (or charter operator-selected) Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year are eligible to complete the application for consideration at the regional and state levels. Classroom teachers, school librarians, and counselors who teach students at least four hours per day are eligible; administrators are not.

Below are the essay questions and essay guidelines from last year’s application. Please keep in mind that questions may change.
Professional Biography
Please use third person for your professional biography and include: the grade level and subject you currently teach; 2) the school in which you currently teach, including city; and 3) all the degrees you hold, including the institutions where they were earned (Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Texas).
Please follow the following style guidelines: 1) Spell out your degrees (Bachelor of Arts not BA); 2) only capitalize a subject area when it's a language (e.g., capitalize English but not calculus); 3) use your first and last name in the first reference, but your last name only on second and subsequent references; and 4) spell out all acronyms the first time they are used.
Essay Questions
Essay Question 1 (750-word response):
Describe a content lesson or unit that defines you as a teacher. How did you engage students of all backgrounds and abilities in the learning? How did that learning influence your students? How are your beliefs about teaching demonstrated in this lesson or unit?
Essay Question 2 (500-word response): Describe a project or initiative you have been involved in which contributed to the improvement of overall school culture. What was your role, how did you collaborate with others, and what is the status of this project today? Please include evidence of student impact.
Essay Question 3 (500-word response): How do you ensure that education transcends the classroom? Describe specific ways in which you deliberately connect your students with the community. Please include evidence of student impact.
Essay Question 4 (500-word response): What do you consider to be a major public education issue today? Describe how you demonstrate being a lifelong learner, leader, and innovator about this issue, both in and outside of the classroom walls.
Essay Question 5 (750-word response): As the 2020 National Teacher of the Year, you serve as a spokesperson and representative for all teachers and students. What is your message? What will you communicate to your profession and to the public?
