Stephen Decatur Middle School
From The Principal ....
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that it is January already. We have many important dates this month. First of all, our After School Academy will begin it's second session on January 14. Please note that this is a change from the original date that was published. Secondly, we have a Parent Conference Night scheduled for January 16 from 5-7 pm. School is closed for students a number of days this month - January 21 for the entire day, January 24 and 25 for half days and January 28 for the entire day. Dismissal time for half days is 12:20 pm.
I want to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of good attendance. Certainly, if your child is sick, they need to stay home. However, regular attendance is essential to academic success. Remember, satisfactory attendance is now required as part of the qualification for being recognized at our Honor's assembly at the end of the school year. We want your child with us everyday engaged and learning. Our teachers work very hard preparing students to be successful at the high school level.
We want to thank the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore for a $5000.00 grant that we used to fund a class set of Ocular Virtual Reality Goggles. They are simply amazing! So far, they have been used in social studies and science classes. One of our local newspapers, OC Today, recently wrote a nice article highlighting our school and the goggles.
We also want to thank Hertrich Toyota of Pocomoke. We were just awarded a $1000.00 grant to fund a new after-school opportunity for students. We are going to partner with the Autumn Grove Stables to offer a horse care and riding experience for students.
We are so fortunate to live in such a compassionate, giving community. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please call, email or stop by so they we may talk. It takes all of us working together to ensure the success of our students.
