Lincoln Memorial
The Design
The Lincoln Memorial was designed by Henry Bacon in 1911 and sculpted by Daniel Chester French. It was built in Washington D.C. They started in 1915 and finished in 1922. It is located on the western side of the mall in D.C. It was made of marble from Colorado and Tennessee. There was even limestone from Indiana.
Abraham Lincoln
Thereare two murals by Jules Guerin. There is 36 Doric columns to represent the states in the union during Lincoln's death. Abraham Lincoln died in 1865.
Extra Information
Abraham Lincoln's statue sits on a podium 14 feet high and he is 19 feet tall. It was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30,1922. Martin Luther king Jr. said his famous speech "I have a Dream" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. There were more than 200,000 people listening.
