Midterm Progress Report

Grades end this Friday for midterm. Due to Thanksgiving Break, the progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 27.

Algebra

Students should be working on corrections. The deadline for corrections for Chapter 4 is Friday.

Students should have a corrected practice test to review tonight for tomorrow's test.

To get us ready for the next chapter, I have given out a instructional review page over writing equations. This should be a review, but if students have skipped from regular 7th grade math to Algebra it is new material. Due to this, it is not a grade tomorrow, but we will be going over it and answering questions to get students better prepared for the upcoming chapter. Students should now have detailed notes on this page.

Our district emphasis this year is writing across the curriculum. I have given the students an article to read. They should mark the text, highlight the numbers, and answer the question on the back page. This is not due until Monday.

Upcoming Activities in Algebra

Students also have been given both timed probes for August, September, and October. They should be reviewing those for their November Probes which will be given after Thanksgiving Break. We are looking for a two to four point increase each month on the Application probe (which is the stapled set) and a three to six point increase each month on the Computation probe (front and back). The Application probe is 10 minutes timed and the Computation probe is 8 minutes timed.

Regular Math

I collected Cornell Notes for Investigation 3.1 for a grade. In class we continued our work on Investigation 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3. These three investigation parts blend together very well. In class we completed Labsheet 3.2 and check it together. We then did Labsheet 3.3 and turned it in for a grade. I tried to make sure all students had 100% when they turned it in. If your son or daughter does not, it is because they did not continue to ask the needed questions in class to get it right. I have given those few students the option to try it again for homework to give them more time to ask questions.

Homework for tonight is Worksheet - Lesson 9: Simplifying Expressions. We are working on making the connection between pouches and variables and between coins and numbers.

Due to a delay in hour 5, I will be collecting their Cornell Notes for Investigation 3.1 tomorrow.

Upcoming Activities in Regular Math

Today we also took notes over the second eight questions on our Common Monthly Assessment (CMA). This part is an investment grade for the November CMA. This part will become academic on the December CMA. Since our Common Monthly Assessments are done every month, there are no retakes for this grade.

Students should have the two monthly timed probes for August, September, and October in their assessment section of their notebook. They should be reviewing those for their two November Probes which will be given after Thanksgiving Break. We are looking for a two to four point increase each month on the Application probe (which is the stapled set) and a three to six point increase each month on the Computation probe (front and back). The Application probe is 10 minutes timed and the Computation probe is 8 minutes timed.
