Lyman Elementary
September 2021
A Note From Mr. McPhee
Dear Lyman Families and Students,
Welcome back to Lyman Elementary! We are excited for the start of the new school year and all the learning that is ahead.
As we return, we want to make sure we keep everyone in the Lyman community healthy and safe. Masks are required again this year in the classrooms, hallways, and main building. We have many masks break built into the school day. Students will not be wearing their masks at lunch, during recess, and whenever PE goes outside for physical activity. Each teacher has mask breaks built into their regular day too. We are following the DOH, State, and District COVID guidelines to make sure everyone is healthy in and out of the school.
Another big change this year is we will not be conducting morning temperature checks at drop-off. Parent drop-off is at 9:10 AM this year, please line up in the gravel parking lot and proceed when the drop-off lane is clear. All K-6 students will come in the main door to the right of the flag pole as you face the building. I'll be out front during the first week to make sure the drop-off is organized and smooth. Please do not drop students off before 9:10 AM and do not walk your student(s) up to the building. Use the parent drive-up and drop-off method. Thank you.
We have some new behavior expectations this year that we feel will help all students succeed. We have three main expectations: Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Show Best Effort. We want to see, hear and feel these expectations every day in the hallways, classrooms, cafeteria, and all other areas of the school. Your teachers will be instructing you on all the details of these rules in the first few weeks of school. Follow these three expectations every day to be the best Lyman Wildcat Student.
Please join the Lyman parent group. We meet the second Tuesday of every month in the school library. Our first meeting is on September 14 at 6:00 PM. Masks and social distancing are required for all meetings. Larger meetings may move to the cafeteria. Come out and see how you can support our students and school this year.
It takes a great community to make a great school. Thank you for all you do to support our students and staff!
Stronger Together,
Scott A. McPhee

First Day Paperwork
Each year, the district requests that families review and update important information. Typically, this has been done via paperwork sent home the first day of school. This year, we are asking parents to complete the information electronically. If you have more than one active student in a school, there will be a separate link for each student in the message box.
To begin the Online Registration process, you will need to log into Skyward Family Access. If you don’t know your login or password use the “Forgot Password” and enter the email address that we have on file for you. Then click on the link for each student. All steps must be completed in order to be able to “Submit”. Please e-mail Miss Kristi if you are having trouble getting logged in and she can try to assist.
Morning Drop Off/Pick Up
Afternoon pick-up ~ Please see the map to the right. Please pull forward and park as close as possible to utilize space.
Attendance
Please call or email the office before 10:00 am on the day of your student’s absence. If it is a pre-arranged absence a note or email can be sent in advance to the office.
If we don’t hear from you, state law requires that we contact you. If we don’t hear from you by 10:00 our automated calling system will give you a call to inform you that your student has an unexcused absence.
The e-mail for attendance is lymanattend@swsd101.org.
For students arriving after 9:25 our campus safety personnel, please walk your child up to the office window to sign your student in. If you need to pick your student up early, please come to the office window. We will call for your student to come to the office after you sign your student out. We ask that families please try to schedule appointments after school or on non-school days to reduce disruptions to our learning environment.
Meals at School
As you may have heard, the United States Department of Agriculture gave schools authority to continue operating a summer meal program (Seamless Summer Option) throughout the 2021-22 school year. This means that each school day, every student will be allowed one breakfast and one lunch free of charge for the 2021-2022 school year!
Please Note: Milk by itself is considered an a la carte item, and is not free of charge unless taken with a complete breakfast or lunch. To begin the school year, students will not be offered a la carte purchases. We ask that students only wanting milk select enough other food items being offered to make it a meal. This means students can select a ½ cup of fruit, a ½ cup of vegetable, and a milk at lunchtime, and have a reimbursable meal. They do not need to select the daily entrée.
With the news of all meals being served free of charge, we would like to clarify the meaning of Free and Reduced-price meal benefits. Meals being free for all students does not mean that all students are qualified for F/R benefits. Examples of F/R benefits include: Reduced or waived ASB fees, waived testing fees, reduced internet fees, being eligible for the Pandemic-EBT, etc. A student must still qualify for meal benefits via a F/R meal application or be Directly Certified through the state to be eligible for F/R benefits.
The Free & Reduced-price meal application can be found online at www.swsd101.org.
Cutting Hunger On The Weekends
Due to the impact COVID-19 has had on many lives, Helping Hands has opened enrollment in the Cutting Hunger On Weekends (C.H.O.W.) program to all families in Skagit County. Families who have already signed up for the C.H.O.W. program or received deliveries from them last year do not need to sign up again. You will continue to get the weekly food bag delivered to your home on Friday.
What is Cutting Hunger On Weekends (C.H.O.W.)?
Over 10,000 kids in Skagit County are on the free and reduced lunch program. Through C.H.O.W., over 2,000 kids receive access to food each week across Skagit County. Additional support for this program is through Helping Hands’ partnership with Skagit Publishing, allowing food to be delivered to students along newspaper routes.
With school starting up, Helping Hands wants to help support your family by ensuring everyone has safe access to fresh and healthy food. If you have kids ages 0-18, we want to help your children get FREE, supplemental food by delivering it directly to your door. Visit www.weekendfood.org to get signed up.
