Principal's Message
May 11, 2018
Dear Willink Families,
First of all, thanks to PTSA for arranging such a great Staff Appreciation Week and to all the families that donated items. The Willink staff really appreciated the different treats every day. So, from the Willink staff to you, “Thank you so much for all you did this week!”
On Wednesday, our 6th grade students were treated to an assembly titled “Chariots of the Sun”. Students learned more about the heroes, gods and monsters
in Greek mythology through poetry, masks, and mimes. They loved watching the stories come to life and even got to participate in various parts of the program. Ask your 6th grade child about it. I know they had a blast and learned a lot.
On Thursday, poet Charles Waters spent the day at Willink meeting with students in various workshops as well as talking to the entire 6th grade. The students in the small group workshops learned that poetry is much more than words on a page. They spent time reading the poems aloud as well as acting them out. The entire 6th grade was captivated by his story and gained a much deeper appreciation for poetry. Check out some of the highlights on our Twitter feed.
Now that the weather has finally turned, please remind your child about the dress code. All shorts need to be longer than the point their fingers meet the palm of their hand with arms hanging straight down. Additionally, crop tops, tank tops, and spaghetti strap tops are fine for other places, but not acceptable for school. Please consult page 3 of the Code of Conduct in your child’s agenda for more information.
Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all of our Willink moms!
Jim

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
Just in time for spring cleaning…..if your notice your child’s winter coat is missing, it could be in the lost and found! Please have them check in the health office, the table by the cafetorium or the locker rooms!
It’s spring! May is skin cancer awareness month. Help teach your child the importance of sunscreen and to apply and reapply liberally to help preserve their young, healthy skin and prevent problems in the future. For more information, check out the following websites: http://www.shadefoundation.org/ or
http://skincancerprevention.org/
We are well into “sneezing season.” If your children suffer from allergies and plays outside a lot, remind them to wash their hands and faces, and perhaps change their clothing also, when returning indoors. This will remove pollen from skin surfaces which may help reduce runny noses and itchy eyes afterwards. May is also National Asthma Month. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website for more information: http://www.cdc.gov/asthma/.
As a general health awareness reminder, we continue to discuss the importance of proper hand washing. Please help encourage your student to cough into their elbow/sleeve and wash their hands after blowing their nose, sneezing, or coughing.
Sport Physicals will be offered at Schroeder High School on June 12th & 13th from 5–7pm. If your child plans on playing a fall sport, we would need a current physical on file from their physician. If your child has not had a physical or you can not get an appointment before August, plan on bringing your child to one of the dates listed above to be seen by the school physician. WE MUST HAVE A CURRENT PHYSICAL ON FILE PRIOR TO THE SPORT SIGN-UP. If you are unsure of your child’s last physical on file, please feel free to call our office at 670-1035 or 1036 to inquire.
