Attendance Matters
Front Office Information
Early Pick Up
Daily instruction ends at 2:55PM daily. To avoid end of day interruptions, students will not be released after 2:15PM. Visitors will not be allowed in the building after 2:15PM unless a previous appointment has been made. Valid state I.D. is required to pick-up students from the main office. Individuals picking up students must also be listed as an authorized pick-up person.*When students are picked up before dismissal, they are missing out on small group instruction, Science and Social Studies. Teachers are teaching until 2:55pm and students are missing out on graded assignments. If it’s not an emergency, we asked that you don’t pick your student up early.*

Message From the School Nurse
Dear Parent or Guardian:
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
- Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
- Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
- Headache
- Mild stomachache
Please Keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
- · Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
- Vomiting (even once)
- Diarrhea
- Chills
- General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness, or muscle aches
- Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
- Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
- Wash hands frequently
- Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
- Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours. A child who has started antibiotics needs to be on the medication for 48 hours before considered non-contagious and able to return to school. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether to bring to school. Please utilize Legacy, our School Based Clinic. Call for an appointment at 713.814.3337.
Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.
Mrs. Harris, RN School Nurse
Storybook Pumpkin Decorating
Storybook PUMPKIN decorating! All SPARKs received a packet detailing our 2nd Annual Storybook Pumpkin Patch Parade.
As a reminder, Pumpkin decorations should be tied back to a BOOK. Please refrain from cutting or carving the pumpkin because we want your masterpiece to last! Also, a pumpkin is not necessary to join the fun, please feel free to utilize the paper template provided or something you may have at home!
Happy decorating! We look forward to seeing all of your creative pumpkins and hearing about your favorite books!
ALL pumpkins are due the week of October 24th and must be a size that allows your student to carry it into the school building.
