Sharing the Good News and Good Work of Students and Staff
January 2017 Edition
Message from the Interim Superintendent:
Happy New Year, #TeamPUSD! It was such an honor and pleasure to get back to work after the long holiday break. January has been a whirlwind of busyness district wide, with finals, a professional growth day, concerts, and two board meetings, just to name a few.
Unfortunately, the new year brings new challenges: on January 10, 2017, Governor Brown released his budget proposal. It does not favor education funding. Next week you will receive a District budget update, explaining what the Governor's proposal means for PUSD. I hope you will all read it, so that you fully understand what our District is facing as we move forward together. We will also provide an opportunity for you to ask questions.
Poway Unified has a long history of excellence. As you'll read in this latest edition of the newsletter, there are some fantastic things going on in PUSD. Even in past times of economic recession, our District has worked hard to maintain excellence through collaboration and sacrifice. I know I can count on #TeamPUSD to do what it takes to preserve our commitment to educating our kids.
Sincerely,
Tony
Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
The LCAP is how the Poway Unified School District decides our funding priorities based on our five District goals. Our Learning Support Services team conducted site-based training for our directors, principals, parents, teachers, and classified employee representatives, who will in turn be hosting LCAP forums at each of their schools and departments in the month to come. We look forward to hearing your input, as it is vital in determining how the District’s budget is best used for student success. This is especially important as the District experiences its current budget challenges. If you can’t attend a forum in person, your feedback is welcome online.
