A Note from Mr. D'Amico
Next week, we will have all 9-11 grade students take the PSAT in school. For 11th grade students, this is the best practice for the SATs that they will take beginning in the Spring, and can also open the door to scholarship opportunities for college-bound students. Other students should also do their best on the test so that they can use this benchmark to measure their college readiness and set goals for the coming years of school.
We also have parent/teacher conferences next Wednesday and Thursday. Use the button after this note to go to the webpage to sign up.
Today we had our Club and Activity Fair, and not only did every student have a chance to learn about the rich after-school offerings we have at NFHS, we've already received proposals from students who want to create new groups to meet their interests! Click here for a full listing of our Clubs and Activities, and talk about them with your student to see what they might be interested in.
This week, a big shout-out to Coach Schwarz and his staff who not only have our Rebels off to a winning start on the field, but who also have our players getting off to a great academic start to the year. NFHS Football players have been using "Rebel Pride Charts" weekly to keep up with their schoolwork and earn recognition for it by the team.
Enjoy the long weekend, and I hope to see you at Homecoming in two weeks!

The CHET Dream Big! Competition
The Dream Big! Competition is an exciting program offered by Connecticut’s Office of the Treasurer (OTT). The competition gives Connecticut parents and guardians the opportunity to win money toward their child’s future education. This year’s competition features more prizes than before, including three grand prizes of $25,000.

News Worth Repeating
Homecoming News
Homecoming is around the corner. See the Homecoming update below from Mrs. McDermott and the Student Council. Please encourage your students to participate in Homecoming Week events!
- Hall decorating will take place on 10/21 from 2-5.
- Spirit Week will be 10/24 and carry over through 10/31.
- Pep Rally will be the last part of the school day on 10/28.
- The football game will be 10/28 starting at 6:30 and the dance will follow the game.
We had to make the dance Friday night for a variety of reasons and therefore we have the game starting earlier, the dance starting later and therefore ending later. The dance will run 8:30-11.
The attire for the dance is what students choose to wear. It can be casual or semi formal and each student can decide for themselves. Rostered football players, cheerleaders and band members will have to be into the dance by 9:30, all other students by 9.
Ticket prices remain unchanged from year's past ($20 in advance, $25 at the door). Students will be allowed to bring out of school guests this year and will need to fill out the necessary paperwork in advance to do so.
Rostered football players, cheerleaders and band members will receive a lower priced ticket as a result of their required attendance at the game. There will be places in school for players, cheerleaders and band members to change if they want.
In addition, there will be an added semi formal dance in February/March that hasn't happened in the last several years.
More information on all of the above will follow shortly as we have just finished our class board elections for all grades and can get student council up and running for the year.
