OXR and NH 6th Grade Band Updates!
One step closer to making music!
Beginning Band 2019-2020 School Year
If you didn't get a chance to come to our instrument rental night on September 3rd, it's not too late to set your student up for success on their instrument! It is VERY important that all students have the needed materials for class everyday, the sooner the better. Here recently, we have begun to make the first few sounds on our instruments, and I can tell the students are very excited to continue learning how to make music, and how their own instruments work. The longer the student waits to have mouthpieces, instruments, and other materials...the faster they will far behind the rest of the class.
Measures of Success
French Horn, Baritone, Trombone, and Tuba Players:
Five Minute Drill
REMINDER
As a reminder, the students MUST have the following:
a) 3 ring binder
b) 10-15 plastic sheet protectors
c) pencil
d) instrument
(rented through Gadsden Music, Hallman's, or another provider-no monopoly here!...or through the New Hope Band Program) *remaining instruments are VERY limited*
**Students who play the French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba MUST purchase their own mouthpiece. Those instruments will be rented through these companies, but they do not provide/rent mouthpieces; of all the materials that the students need right now, it would be mouthpieces!!!
e) “Measures of Success: A Comprehensive Musicianship Band Method” by Deborah A. Sheldon, Brian Balmages, Timothy Loest, Robert Sheldon, and David Collier (published through FJH Music Company Inc.)
*It is important that you have the correct copy of this book, there is one for Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, F Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion.
***Percussionist's need TWO books: ^The band method book previously mentioned, as well as “Five Minute Drill: Daily/FUN Classroom Activities for Percussion” by Eric Rath, and Ralph Hicks (published through Tapspace Publications). I know that Gadsden Music should have a couple of copies available.
