It was a great first week back and I've enjoyed seeing students back in the classroom getting to know their teachers and classmates. Students I've spoken with are happy to be back at school. Next week, we start our regular schedule for the week. Dismissal for TK/K will be at 2:10 and for Grades 1-8 at 2:55 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays will remain minimum day schedule with all students dismissing at 12:25.

As I'm sure you are seeing on the news, we are expecting tropical storm conditions on Sunday into Monday. Please stay tuned to these sites for updates:

This year Back to School Night will be on Wednesday, September 6th from 5:00 - 6:00pm. Back to School Night is an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and learn the expectations for the upcoming school year. We will have two sessions for parents. Session 1 from 5:00-5:25 and Session 2 from 5:30-5:55. We look forward to seeing you then.

Breakfast and Lunch

All students are eligible to receive 1 free breakfast and 1 free lunch per day. Additional meals can be purchased a la carte. This year all students who wish to obtain a meal from the cafeteria will need to enter their student ID number on the keypad. This is in order for our school to be reimbursed for meals provided. Student IDs are available in AERIES and are the same as the User ID on student devices. We will continue to support students as they learn their numbers. Please assist your child in learning this number. The milk and the salad bar items are included as part of the reimbursable lunch for our students. If a student does not want the school lunch or has lunch from home, unfortunately they are not able to just take milk or items from the salad bar for free. As the district would not be reimbursed for these items. They can however purchase these items a la carte, please note that all a la carte sales are cash sales. Any student that purchases a reimbursable meal is welcome to take as much from the salad bar as they would like. They are also able to return to the salad bar after they have eaten if they are still hungry and time permits.

Classroom Parties

There should be no outside food supplied to the students during the school day from a classroom party. If you are looking for a way to celebrate a student during the school day please see the Nutrition Services webpage for information on our pizza parties. During the school day any and all food falls under the Nutrition Services Department and we need to ensure that students with food allergies and food equity are safeguarded.

OUSD messages families using a platform called Blackboard Communications. This allows teachers and staff to send an email, text or voice message directly to the email address or phone number you have listed in Aeries. It’s important that all the adults in your student’s life have updated contact information in Aeries so everyone can receive important messages from your student’s school.

You no longer need to download any third party apps to receive messages from OUSD. The only district supported app that families should download is the OUSD app.Check your email or spam folder. Your login and password for the app have been sent from

noreply@parentlink.net to the email you have in Aeries.
