Weekly Newsletter, Vol. 5.17.18
A Message from Superintendent Chris Leone
May 14, 2018
Dear Region 6 Community,
After much consideration over the weekend, I have decided to postpone the three-town tour discussion on school enrollment and consolidation that was scheduled for this week.
After talking with staff and families, I strongly believe that this is a week where we all need to focus on supporting the students, families, and staff of Goshen Center School. This is not the week to focus on the future and enrollment.
Therefore, the three-town tour meetings have been rescheduled as follows:
Monday, May 21, 2018 (Warren School)
10:00 – Parents
3:30 – Staff
5:00 – Parents, Students, Community
Tuesday, May 22, 2018 (James Morris School)
10:00 – Parents
3:30 – Staff
5:00 – Parents, Students, Community
Wednesday, May 23, 2018 (WAMOGO)
Day – Student Groups
2:30 – Staff
Thursday, May 24, 2018 (Goshen)
10:00 – Parents
3:30 – Staff
5:00 – Parents, Students, Community
I realize that some of the new times may conflict with other school-based events. Please know that every presentation will be the same so a person, or family, can attend any designated meeting.
I thank you for understanding this schedule change.
Regards,
Chris

2018 Governor's Summer Reading Challenge
The 2018 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge is underway! Participation in the Summer Reading Challenge will support and enhance our ongoing efforts to help every student become a proficient, confident, life-long reader. The program will recognize schools for participation and the number of books read, as well as “Outstanding Public Library-School Partnerships.” Certificates will be awarded to schools with 100 percent student participation, and selected schools will be recognized in a special ceremony. This year’s theme for the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge is “Libraries Rock!” We also encourage you and your family to visit the Morris Public Library and participate in their Summer Reading Program.
Social Media Safety
School Attire ("Dress Code")
The purpose of stressing appropriate clothing for students is to create an atmosphere at school that is conducive to learning. Students are expected to dress in a manner that will not interfere with instruction or endanger the well-being (physical, mental and emotional) of others and themselves.
Students who wear clothing that is deemed to be inappropriate for school or school-related activities may be subject to administrative action. Students who fail to comply with expectations concerning attire will be subject to school discipline in accordance with the Board's policy on student discipline. Administrative action may include, but is not limited to, the following:
• request of student to change clothing
• request of parent to bring to school a change of clothing for student
• removal of student from class
School administrators, at their discretion, may make changes to the list above.
Please Note:
When choosing shoes, consider the weather, as well as the activities of a typical school day.
Suggested shorts’ styles include cargo shorts, trouser shorts, soccer shorts, basketball shorts, Oxford shorts, Chino shorts, and Bermuda shorts. Short-shorts are not acceptable school attire.
All pants and shorts should fit snugly at the waist, with no exposed skin between pants/shorts and shirt.
Shirts with sleeves are recommended.
Undergarments, including bra straps and boxer shorts, should not be visible.
Hats are not permitted in school.
Giving Garden Maintenance
A Message from Mrs. Wright:
Over the next several weeks, JMS students will be readying the beds, sowing seeds and transplanting plants into the Giving Garden for this year’s growing season!
Through sustainable, organic practices the garden brings life-long, authentic learning into the lives of our students who work hard to collaboratively bring the garden to life. Throughout the summer, the delicious, nutritious produce is enjoyed by those in need at area soup kitchens and by families maintaining the garden. Upon arrival back to school in the fall, students enjoy the freshly picked produce and the JMS community is invited to join us at our Harvest Luncheon to enjoy the dishes each class freshly prepared.
The outreach, celebrations, and success of the garden would not be possible without the help of families maintaining the garden.
Our Giving Garden is in need of some TLC! Please review this document to see where help is needed.
We are seeking families to sign-up for one week. Consider sharing the week with another family! Please sign up here to help maintain the garden over the summer.
