NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 9 | 31 MARCH 2021
SPORT THIS TERM
We have had a fun and successful term of sporting events with the Colour Run; a visit from Coach Ronnie from the Athletics Australia Association; and building endurance for Cross Country next term by versing each other to win the Golden Shoe. Next term we are looking forward to football clinics, a visit from the West Coast Eagles, Cross Country and the Interschool Winter Carnival!
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending Jesus to save us from our sins.
The resurrection of Your Son gives us new life and renewed hope.
We ask you to come into our hearts,
and commit to following Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour.
Help us to live as new people in pursuit of the Christian ideal.
Grant us wisdom to know what we must do,
the will to want to do it,
the courage to undertake it,
the perseverance to continue to do it,
and the strength to complete it.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
We have come to the end of a short but extremely busy first term.
Despite starting the term with a week of lockdown, we have been blessed to have the rest of the term free from any Covid disruptions. Thank you to our parent/carer community for your ongoing support with our Covid safe practices at school.
Colour Run
I would like to extend a big thank you to our P&F for organising the first ever OLOM Colour Run. The day was a huge success and I think the smiles on the children’s faces indicated just how much they enjoyed the event. We are deeply grateful for the large number of parent volunteers who assisted on the day. This is what community is all about. It is only through partnership with our parents and carers that we are able to run these type of events for our children and families to enjoy. A very big thank you must also be extended to our Physical Education teacher, Ms Bridgette Millen who worked closely with the P&F to ensure that the day ran smoothly and that lots of fun was had by all involved.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all parents and carers who attend parent teacher interviews this term. As previously mentioned, this is our form of reporting for Term 1 and we appreciate the time you set aside in the busyness of family life to attend these important meetings. Parent/carer engagement your child’s learning is essential as it improves learning outcomes as well as the wellbeing and productivity of your child. We are partners in your child’s education journey and your input is essential in creating a strong home school relationship which ultimately benefits your child.
Survey
Your opinions are important to us. The survey link below is your opportunity to let us hear your voice. Your feedback provides us with information to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our families. All responses are anonymous, so please take the time to tell us what you think of our school. We can only determine a trend in thinking or experiences if we have a large enough response rate. Currently only 5% of our parent/carer community have completed the survey. We look forward to that figure increasing over the school holidays and we will be posting updates on parent/carer engagement in the survey on our Facebook page. The survey closes in Week 1 of Term 2.
Winter Uniform
A reminder that students are to wear Winter Uniform when they return to school in Term 2.
Easter
Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. As we know from the Gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion and when he appeared to his disciples, the first words he said to them were “Peace be with you”. We wish all our school families a Happy Easter and we trust that the Lord’s peace may be with all of you too.
Take care over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday the 20th of April.
God bless you.

From the P&F
Colour run raises $6,000!
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in last Friday's Colour Run!! We had the most amazing day and raised over $6000! This money will go to the P&F and will be used to purchase new resources, learning materials and other items to use by the entire school community. The P&F are now finalising the fundraiser and ordering the prizes. If you raised over $10, you will have chosen a prize in return for your amazing efforts. These prizes will arrive early in Term 2. Thank you to all of the helpers who assisted to make this day an incredible success, and to Ms. Millen our wonderful sports teacher for all of her hard work in ensuring the day went smoothly.
Please donate glass jars with lids for Mothers' Day promotion
The P&F are seeking donations of glass jars with lids for our Mother's Day promotion. If you have clean glass jars with lids, please bring them to school and place them in the basket provided in the front office.
Sport this Term
We have had a fun and successful start to our sporting events here at OLoM.
Our Colour Run fundraiser will be sure to be a new favourite with our students. I have never seen so many smiles and participation for an event. A huge thank-you again to all the wonderful volunteers and staff.
This term, the Year 3-6 students had a visit from Coach Ronnie from the Athletics Australia Association. The children were involved in running, jumping and throwing activities during their sport lessons. Students were also involved in a variety of team building games and also had the opportunity to coach each other to give and receive positive feedback.
Classes have also been training hard to build their endurance ready for Cross Country next term by versing each other to win the Golden Shoe. The Golden Shoe challenge is a competition between all classes to see who can get the greatest number of laps around the basketball court in 5 minutes. Some classes have more students than others, so to make things fair, I average the scores. Results are on the pin up board in front of the sport shed, our first official winners were 6W. I can’t wait to see who the next winners will be.
Events we are looking forward to are the Year 2 and Year 6 football clinics, a whole school presentation from the West Coast Eagles, Cross Country (our school and interschool) and the Year 6 Interschool Winter Carnival.
