The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of November 5 - 9!
Message from the principal
This week, I'd like to highlight a couple of opportunities for UHS families to better understand their current state regarding learning and prepare for the future.
These are drop-in conferences where teachers are available to visit in person. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR STUDENT'S SCHEDULE or be able to bring up a list on your phone or device. A list of teacher dinner times are listed here. Teachers will not be available during their 30 minute dinner times. The following link shares when coaches and directors will be out for conferences.
FOR FAMILIES OF SENIORS: Our UHS counseling department has created an opportunity for seniors and their families to get help with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications.
Senior families who need help filling out FAFSA are invited to set up an appointment to meet with local college/financial aid representatives at UHS on Wednesday, November 28th from 3-7 PM. This is a free service in conjunction with ICAN and volunteers from Drake, Grand View, Iowa Student Loan, College Connectors and other organizations. If you are interested in signing up, please contact Darlene Wagner at 457-6817 or wagnerd@urbandaleschools.com. Our plan is to help 40 families that evening, so space is limited.
Here is a sign up link as well if you are interested.

We welcome UHS family members and students to come be a part of these opportunities for connecting and improving our partnership aimed at helping improve students' overall experience. Together we can achieve our vision: UHS will change the world!
Sincerely,

UHS students take active role in promoting play and raising funds for U MATTER
UHS students took an active role in promoting the fall play, The Elephant Man, both in school and around the community. Besides displaying student-made posters in and around the school and handing out "business cards" with information about the show, students also got the word out by doing interviews with ABC Channel 5 locally in Des Moines. UHS seniors Matt Moran and Jacob Sammon did two different TV spots with Channel 5 to help promote the show and message. They also appeared on local TV network, CW, for a short segment earlier in the week.
They also put together an approach create awareness and raise funds for the UHS Drama Department's new initiative, U MATTER. They held a silent auction before each show to raise funds for U MATTER.
