Boeckman Bulletin

Note from the Principal
As many of you know, the WLWV School Board recently voted on a proposed timeline for returning our K-5 students to in-person learning. This timeline allows for an incremental shift to the hybrid model of instruction, beginning with our kindergarten students on February 8th, 1st grade the week of February 15th, and the remaining grade levels during the weeks of February 22nd and March 3rd.
While many preparations for having children back in the school have been completed, the survey sent to families last week informs essential components of our planning. You are likely looking forward to learning details so you can better understand what lies ahead and can begin preparing children for these changes. As the date approaches, there will be many updates and communications from the District and Boeckman We continue to receive information daily that can influence plans and will continue to keep you informed.
Please begin having conversations with your child about returning to school and how it will be both exciting and different from past school experiences. While we will be providing families with more tips and details for this, some simple ways to get started now can be:
- Have your child practice wearing a face mask for increasing lengths of time and while playing outside.
- Ensure your child has several face masks that they find comfortable and that fit well
- Practice washing hands thoroughly and independently
- Help young students build independence with things such as zipping coats and pants, tying shoes, opening lunch bags containers.
- Point out social distance markings in public places and how to follow them.
These simple practices done well will help ensure the safety of our school community when we return. I have attached a document that has perhaps more relevance at this time than when shared in the past. Use this as a tool or reference to begin your work at home. You can start setting your child up for success with these helpful ideas today. Thank you!
It certainly has been a school year filled with change, and it has been essential for all of us to partner closely with one another. Please continue to stay connected to district and school communications, read carefully, and reach out to your child's teacher or our school office with questions. Our entire team is appreciative of your steadfast support. Together, we will create the best possible experience for our children during this ever-changing and complex school year.
Warmly,
Lindy Sproul

Remember to report absences
Even while students learn at home remotely either in Comprehensive Distance Learning or through the K12 Online Program, regular and authentic engagement remains important. We know that regular engagement can be challenging in a remote learning environment. That being said, we care very much that students continue to regularly participate in their classes in whatever schedule or routine your student and family have created this year.
If your student is going to miss a class or activity, it is important to inform the school office ahead of time when possible. Parents can do this by using ParentVUE, by calling the school office at (503) 673-7750 or by emailing laschobs@wlwv.k12.or.us. Students in the K12 Online Program should also use ParentVUE or alert their teacher and program director if there are going to be any changes in a student’s engagement.
Meal Delivery
Families who signed up for the district’s meal delivery service should have received a confirmation email including their delivery day and schedule. If you signed up for meal delivery and did not receive a confirmation email with your delivery schedule information, please call 503-673-7995.
As a reminder, a family must reapply for Free and Reduced Meals each year. Here is the link to reapply or to apply if you think your family might be eligible.
