Big picture

A Note from Mr. Morcone (Please note the links can be clicked on the electronic versions of this newsletter):

Hello Parents and Guardians:

As you know we are not in session today, Friday, January 15, 2021 due to a COVID exposure. While we have had an excellent streak going, a closure was bound to occur. We will reopen thisTuesday, January 19 due to the Martin Luther King holiday. Please know that all individuals that may have had direct contact have already been contacted at this time.

Switching gears, I look forward to having lunch with our Beehive winners for being Safe, Kind and Responsible! Congratulations to all students for working hard every day. Our Students of the Month were in the Sentinel this week!

Here are a few items to note:

-We held another Parent University this past Thursday.

-Grade 3 engaged in our NYS Testing Simulation for later this year. This is required by NYS as a practice.

-Here is our link to our new PBIS Tab on the MJT Website:

-Our next round of i-Ready computer-based assessments will be administered between January 18-February 12.

-Information to come on our virtual PTO Science, Art and Technology Fair scheduled for Thursday, March 11.

-No school Monday, January 18, 2021 as we observe Martin Luther King, Jr Day.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if there are any questions. Have a nice weekend.

Pass this on to our future MJT UPK students! They can have a story read to them by an MJT Faculty or Staff member. Click below or call the office to sign-up and for details.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS-Check out this article below...

Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school. Read this research summary for more details.

Important Topics:

Attendance Reminder:

  • If your child is absent and they are able to log into the teacher's Google Classroom for the core subject areas, they are eligible to receive attendance credit for the day. Please make arrangements with the classroom homeroom teacher.

General Announcements:

Emergency Activity Lessons/packet GRADES UPK-2: In the event of a brief (24-48 hour) closure, an emergency hard copy packet was sent home with your child at the start of the school year with an attached letter explaining this process. These activities arranged by grade level are now also posted on our MJT Webpage for easy access. You may have received updated materials from the classroom teacher. These activities are only for a 24-48 hour closure. After this duration, we will activate our Chromebook deployment and each child will receive their Closure Class Schedule from their teacher for full online/remote learning. Faculty and Staff will be checking in with you and your child during this time.

GRADE 3: In the event of a brief (24-48 hour) closure, grade 3 will use the full remote schedule that was sent to families by their respective teachers. This is due to students traveling with Chromebooks each day.
