East Albemarle News
August 2022
Welcome to East Albemarle Elementary!
Back to School Open House
TWO drop-in sessions will be offered to accommodate parent / guardian work schedules; attend the one that is most convenient for your family. Open House is the best time to meet your child's teacher, pick up transportation information, and drop off school supplies. You may also communicate any health-related needs and drop off student medications as needed.
Kindergarten families will be able to meet East's kindergarten team, view all of our kindergarten classrooms, and pick up information regarding their child's staggered entry day schedule for August 29th - 31st. Kindergarten students will ONLY ATTEND 1 DAY over the first three days of school - with ALL kindergarten students attending starting September 1st.

Kindergarten ONLY Open House | August 31st, 5:30 - 6:30 pm
After the conclusion of our last staggered entry day on Wednesday, August 31st, we would like to invite all kindergarten families to attend kindergarten only open house that evening. This will provide families with the opportunity to formally meet their child's assigned homeroom teacher for the year, learn about classroom expectations, and ask questions!

Registration for the 2022-2023 School Year
Families who are new to the East Albemarle community will also want to register children in grades 1-5 for school as soon as possible to make sure to receive important back-to-school communication before the start of the new year! Early registration for all grades helps us make sure we are fully staffed for the coming year with as many teachers and support personnel as needed to best meet student needs. Register for school as soon as possible to help us plan accordingly!
All enrollments applications are online; click here for instructions!
Kindergarten Health Assessments & Immunizations
Kindergarten health assessments and immunizations are due by September 27th! If you are unable to provide East Albemarle with documentation by this date, your child will be excluded from school until you are able to do so! I encourage you to make an appointment with your physician soon to avoid the back-to-school rush for appointments and possible absences.
Student & Parent Handbook 2022-2023
All East families should take time to familiarize themselves with the handbook. While most of it remains the same as in years past, there have been a few updates for the coming school year. Updates to this year's handbook include:
- expectations for student behavior
- student birthdays and other celebrations
- cafeteria and meal procedures and guidelines
- student cell phone guidelines
- student dress code
- Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
- toys at school / lost & found items
A hardcopy of the Student & Parent Handbook can be made available for you by calling the East Albemarle Main Office at 704-961-3500.

Car Rider Name Tag Request
If you are planning for your child to be an afternoon car rider during the 2022-2023 school year, we ask that you complete the following form to request a personalized car tag. Each family will receive TWO copies of the car tag(s) requested. Any name tags requested prior to Open House (on August 25th, 2022) will be available for pick up at that event. Name tags requested at a later date can be picked up at the East Albemarle Main Office, or will be sent home with students on the first day of school (August 29th, 2022). Car name tags can be requested at any time during the year using this form and will be sent home within two school days of the request being placed.
To expedite the dismissal process, all parents / guardians should prominently display the car tags on the passenger side of the vehicle (windshield or window) for East staff members to easily read.
