This Week @ Whitney 3-29-20
Eli Whitney Elementary School
Dear Families,
We would like you all to know how much we miss your children. This is a difficult time for all and we want you to know that we are here to support you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you need assistance with the distance learning packet. All of the teachers are here to support your family 9-3, Monday-Friday. Please remember to check your email or have your student check their school email for important updates or links to learning sessions with their teacher. The learning sessions are interactive and we think they are a very important part of wellness. Whitney teachers are using Microsoft TEAMS as a way of communicating with students. Your child can visit with friends and their teachers through class meetings, read alouds, or just a quick check in with one another.
Your happiness and well-being at this time is the most important thing to us. We hope that your time together as a family is filled with happiness, health, and enjoyment.
We all look forward to the day when we can all reunite and return to Eli Whitney School. In the meantime, do not hesitate to reach out to any staff member with concerns, comments, or feedback.
All the best,
The Eli Whitney Staff

On Monday, March 30th, EWES will come together again as a school community to read. Students are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on, stuffed animals, pillows, etc. and their favorite books to a designated place within your own homes!
Throughout our DEAR time, students and/or parents may virtually connect with me, as well as any other staff member who has also joined our live event. The platform we will be using from here on out is, Microsoft TEAMS. You do not need a password to join in on all the fun!
The event will be from 5:30-6:30pm. To connect with us throughout any part of our DEAR time, just click on the Microsoft TEAMS banner below to join in!

Keeping a Reading Log
One way that you can help your child grow as a reader is by setting up a reading log for him or her. By using a reading log, your child can track his/her own progress as a reader which will then encourage him/her to keep reading.
What is a Reading Log?
A reading log is a journal of every book your child reads. A reading log can be as simple as writing down the title and author of the book in a notebook. It also can be more elaborate. A child could give the book a number of stars (between 1 and 5) to rate how good they thought the book was or they could write a short paragraph detailing the main plot of the book. Younger children could draw a picture to illustrate the main characters in the book. Older children could also write down what genre the book is found in. Whatever you decide should work easily for your child, should always include the title and author. Let's continue to build a community of Avid Readers!!!
