Chatfield News
December 16, 2019
From the Desk of the Directors
This is the last newsletter of 2019! Welcome 2020!
We would both like to express our most sincere appreciation to all of the family members that have been so active in the school making unique events like the Book Fair, Santa Shop, Treat Street, holiday crafts, Adopt a Family, and other learning opportunities happen! Chatfield families make Chatfield a wonderful place for children.
Over the break encourage your child to read and to practice math facts. Other than that, we encourage you and your family to take a break from school work, packing lunches, etc. Come back refreshed!
We wish everyone a peaceful and happy holiday season! We will see you back at school on Monday, January 6 bright and early!
Fight for Equity in School Funding - Update
Thank you to everyone that contacted legislators and the governor-repeatedly! Thank you for your continued support.
SLOW Down in the parking lot and be careful!
This is a gentle reminder to slow it down in the parking lot when dropping off and picking up kids, watch for pedestrians, be careful.
Youth Basketball - Sign Up Now!
Mr. Boyle has a great program planned. We are recruiting all students in grades 1-4. We are particularly looking to recruit as many girls as possible to possibly have girl teams or small group skills. Please sign up using this Google link: https://forms.gle/Y4Y8iXgGtoEXvTbb6
Registration is due the 20th and the First week/Evaluation clinic is January 11th.
SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
It’s that time of year again when we must discuss school closings. As you know, the weather and roads can be an issue this time of year. Mr. Kraly and Mr. Young want you to know that they are always concerned about the safety of the students and parents. We will be working with the superintendents from other local school districts and the Lapeer Intermediate School District to determine the conditions around the county.
If your local district is closed that does not necessarily mean that Chatfield is closed.
The school directors will make the determination as early as possible and send out messages via:
Radio: WWJ 950, WJR 760, WMPC 1230
Television: Fox 2, Local 4, ABC 7, WWJTV CBS,
CW 50, ABC 12
Internet: www.chatfieldschool.org
Skylert School Messenger: Parents can adjust their contact preferences, E-mail, Text, Phone Call, by going into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the Skylert tab.
As a general rule of thumb Chatfield School does not have early release on days where the weather and roads become worse during the day. We will provide updates regarding the status of evening activities by posting them to the school website.

Book Fair and Santa Shop - Thank you!
We would also like to thank P.I.E. and all of the volunteers for a fantastic Santa Shop last week. The shop was very successful and students enjoyed being able to do a little shopping at school. A special thank you to Mrs. Misty Myers who takes the lead on the initial organization of the event! She does a great job. Thank you to all of our volunteers. Again without our volunteers we would not be able to do these great activities.

You can also put your payment with contact information in and envelope marked PIE and drop it off in the office. Tickets are $12 each and must be purchased by January 20th!
Thank You!
Thank you to all the parents that helped out with the Santa Shop! Everyone had a great time shopping and picking out presents for the people on their list. We hope to have totals on funds raised for our January meeting.
Thank you, also, to all the families that participated in or shared on social media our Community Partnership event with Calvelli’s and Papa’s Pizza! We can’t wait to find out just how successful it was, for them and us!
HERE IT COMES: THE P.I.E. UN-Fundraiser! Please support!
I really don't want to awkwardly ask my friends, family and coworkers AGAIN if they want to buy more wrapping paper, candy or cookie dough. I don't really want to let children wash my car and then have to go wash it again myself. I don't even bake for my family, so I don't really wantto bake for a fundraiser. I don't want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word 'thon' in it.
We're right there with you! This year, PIE is hoping to raise only the amount of money that we plan to spend this year, and then throw an even bigger and better bike rodeo next year to fuel two year's worth of projects again. In order to do this, we decided the best way to maintain our account balance would be to do an un-fundraiser... This would be in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door to door, collecting money and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting PIE with your donation, and helping us achieve our goals to support our students and faculty.
There is not an official "due date" on this un-fundraiser. Some families may wish to send their donation in right away. Others may choose to wait until after the holidays. However, you decide, please decide to participate! We would appreciate all donations made by March or April. Donations from other families members like grandparents are also accepted. A thank you letter for tax purposes will be provided.
Please see the flyer below for details on how to make your contribution to the UN-fundraiser. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR PIE, AND DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF FUNDRAISERS FOR BAND AND / OR MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASS TRIPS.
Wee Dolphins Program Has Openings!
Have you heard about our Wee Dolphins program? Wee Dolphins is a place for preschool-age children ages 3-5 years old to come and learn pre-reading skills, early math skills, science, and art. We also spend our days playing with friends and developing socially. We endeavor to have a balance of teacher guided academic centers along with play based/hands on learning experiences to give children a great start to their education. We also get to participate in all that Chatfield has to offer, including visiting the Willows, attending music class, playing in the gym, and enjoying the library with Mrs. Neuman. For more information, and to get your child enrolled, please email Alicia Kluck at alikluck@chatfieldschool.org, or call our ext. 222.
