Principal's Message
Happy May Sunset Lake Families,
This month is one of our busiest of the year!
Thanks to everyone for making our Annual Walk-a-Thon a huge success! The numbers are still coming in, but it looks like this year's event will definitely bring us new playground equipment with over $35,000 made through the student pledges and our local organization's sponsorships. THANK YOU to our amazing PTSO board, Shannon Visser, Krystle Black, Ashley Summerfield and Denise Welch for leading the charge!
Our state assessment, MSTEP will be finishing up this week. Thank you, 3rd-5th-grade parents, for your support in strong attendance and sleep habits during the testing window.
Our BK-5th-grade district assessments are also scheduled for this month. Staff and students are working to reach their goals in reading and math while tracking them in their Leadership Binders.
Our last couple of years we have really encouraged reading during the summer break. This year is no exception. We hope to have every child read throughout the summer break and to encourage that our students find the JOY in reading. We have been able to acquire a nice size collection of books for our summer reading and will be sending home book bags again this summer. Along with our summer book bags, the Vicksburg Community Foundation will be having the Bookmobile in our school neighborhoods to bring the books to families.
We are excited about this added summer reading feature. Be sure to be on the lookout for the Big Read Reading Machine!
This month is a very busy month for our families with spring sports and end of year celebrations. We encourage all of our families to try and keep your child on a regular sleep schedule if possible. Thank you Sunset Lake families!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw
Sunset Lake Elementary Principal

A message regarding our fabulous Outdoor Education Center
The Outdoor Education Center is looking for some donations. We have brand new bird feeders and students have really been enjoying the birds visiting right outside our window. We could really use some seed donations! Suet would be a fun addition as well! We are also looking for some digital cameras to use during activities. These need to use an SD card and include batteries and charging cords please. Thanks so much for considering some help for the OEC!
