Amira Khan wins county spelling bee!
The 2019 Cooke County Spelling Bee took place on Monday, February 11.. The Bee went 25 rounds, with the top two battling it out for the last 9 rounds. Amira Khan, Lee Intermediate 6th grade student, placed first. Emma Waltersheid, Muenster ISD 6th grade student, was the runner-up.
Also participating in the Cooke County Bee were the campus winners from the other particpating schools: Jazlyn Austin-Thomas (4th grade) of Chalmers Elementary, Uriel Tellez (7th grade) of Gainesville Junior High, and Sven Aackerlund (6th grade) of Sacred Heart.
Khan will represent Cooke County at the 61st annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas. It will be broadcast on Saturday, March 16, from 12pm-1pm on WFAA Channel 8.
