Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
Last Friday I enjoyed meeting with students and staff at our monthly HAL Hangout. We discussed our favorite things about spring (birds, rainbows, sunny days, flowers, outdoor sports) and drew a spring scene without looking while we were drawing. Yep, we had our paper on the top of our heads and slowly added clouds, a rainbow, birds and flowers - see my drawing above! Hallinan students are phenomenal - I love spending time with them! If your student missed the March HAL Hangout, please encourage them to join us at our next one on April 23.
Spring Conferences will be occurring on April 4/8 and 4/9. Like fall, they will be online. To prepare for conferences, teachers will have a prep day on Friday 4/2. All students will have asynchronous lessons posted online by their teacher by 8 am.
Sign-ups for conferences will be sent directly to you from your student's teacher on or by 3/29. At your conference, expect your teacher to share and discuss Winter i-Ready assessment results.
Have a safe and fun spring break!

Bias and Racial Incident Reporting Form and Information
On November 16, 2020, the LOSD School Board approved the ALL Students Belong Policy which prohibits the display of hate symbols and the use of hate speech in our school community. This is another step forward in our efforts of becoming an anti-bias and anti-racist organization and living up to the District’s core values of equity and inclusion. The All Students Belong Policy makes it clear that hate will not be tolerated nor accepted in our schools. We encourage students to stand against hate by interrupting and reporting any bias and/or racist incident that they witness or personally experience.
We want LOSD schools to be a safe, welcoming, and loving space where all students have the opportunity to be themselves and thrive socially and academically. If you have witnessed or experienced any harm directed to any student, teacher, or staff member based on perceived or actual identity, you can report to your administrator, a trusted staff member, by using the new elementary Incident Report or anonymously to SafeOregon.

Recommended Quarantining After Travel
With many in our community transitioning to in-person learning and Spring Break coming up at the end of March, it’s a good time to clarify the statewide guidance for travel. It’s recommended that people who are not vaccinated and who travel outside of the state of Oregon consider quarantining upon returning home.
LOSD is asking people to consider quarantining, but it is not required. Schools will not be keeping track of travel plans. It is up to each person and family to decide. If students choose to quarantine, instructional materials will be provided while out of school.
Per the Oregon Statewide Guidance for Travel, people are recommended to practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival in the state and limit their interactions to their immediate household. People may consider ending quarantine if they have had no symptoms: after 10 days with no testing or after 7 days with an antigen or PCR test.
New Student Registration for 2021-22 School Year
Online Registration through ParentVUE is open for all new students for the 2021-22 school year. Students who are currently attending LOSD during the 2020-21 school year do not need to register for the 2021-22 school year. Please call the Hallinan office at 503-534-2353 or visit the Registration & Verification page of the LOSD website assistance. Please visit the Hallinan website for additional Kindergarten information.
