Welcome Back!
Construction Update
The following are updates and photos from Bond Program Director, Don Dias. Since we have been gone for a couple of weeks this is a lengthier update than in prior weeks.
Below are photos of the grading being done for the new drop off and parking lot off the 100 wing on the Connecticut Avenue side.
Picture 1: Shows the rough grade of the drop off lane.
Picture 2: Shows the excavator and soil being removed to get down to sub-grade.
Picture 3: Looking east from Goodwin sidewalk. The rock is required to remove soils from the tires of vehicles.
Picture 4: Looking east at the new staff parking lot area. The higher soil are the islands that are part of the design.
Below are pictures of the bio-retention basins project. These pictures were taken prior to the concrete being placed and finishing the sidewalk.
Picture 1: This is the lower field basin just getting started. The google map (below) shows that sidewalk portions have been removed so this sidewalk route is closed.
Picture 2: This is the basin closest to the gym lot looking North.
Picture 3: This is the same basin looking South towards the gym lot.
Picture 4: This is the storm drain connection for overflow water only. (The concrete has now been placed on the sidewalk).
Picture 5: This is the basin closest to the annex showing another overflow drain that looks out into the curb. (Sidewalk now done).
Principal's Coffee
8th Grade - Important Announcements
This Friday, January 11, your student will receive a letter from me in his/her science class that details expectations and events related to graduation. There are behavior and grade point average requirements. This letter must be signed and returned to your student's science teacher by Friday, January 18. We will be meeting individually with all students who did not meet the 2.0 (cumulative) g.p.a. requirement at the end of first trimester.
On Tuesday, January 15, (even math periods) and Wednesday, January 16, (odd math periods), students will take the math placement test for high school during math class. This is a 45 minute test that is multiple choice. Students began preparing for this after Thanksgiving Break. This test is scored by UC Berkeley (unlike the Language Arts placement test, which is scored by the Sequoia Union High School District), so we have a really strict deadline to get these tests turned in. Please make sure your student is at school for this test unless he/she is really, really sick. We have to turn over the tests to the SUHSD by that Friday.
We should be getting the scores for the Language Arts assessment soon and will share these with you. If your student took that assessment late then those assessments won't be graded until some time after Friday, January 18.

Palo Alto Babe Ruth Baseball Prep Season Registration Open!
Palo Alto Babe Ruth Baseball invites you to register for our upcoming 2019 Prep Season. There are no tryouts or cuts, so every player who registers is guaranteed a spot to play in this season which runs from March to May. Our Prep Season is a developmental league designed to help younger players develop their skills on the full-sized diamond and prepare players for our 15U Season. It includes two weeks of preseason clinic-style practices, a player draft, and an eight week season featuring one practice and two games per week for each team culminating in a fun City Championship Tournament. The league features minimum playing time rules to allow all players a chance to play in each game.
The Prep League is open to all 7th and 8th graders, as well as any high school student not on a high school baseball roster. Full refunds are issued if a player makes his/her high school team and is unable to play Prep, so there is no risk in registering. Registration closes Feb 15, but $400 early-bird pricing ends Jan 15!
For more information, visit our website at www.pababeruth.org or contact Chris Lillios at clillios@compuserve.com.
