Fostoria Elementary December 2020
FES Remote Learning 11/30/20-1/8/21
Remote learning will take place from November 30th-January 8th with hopes to return to in-person learning on January 11th. Holiday break will be from December 23rd-January 3rd. Please read below for our expectations and procedures for remote learning. Students who are already learning remotely from the beginning of the year- nothing will change. You will still have the same teacher and schedule as you have been using all year.
The most important way for your child to continue learning is to make sure to sign on each day with their teacher. This will be done through Google Meet or Zoom. There will be a requirement to complete a task for all students daily that will count as a grade as well as a symbol of attendance. We also understand that every home situation is different so we will be willing to work with families if they cannot get on with the teacher. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if they are unable to get on for teacher sessions. All activities/assignments for the week will be due on Friday at 4:00. It is important to keep students on as much of a schedule as possible moving forward. Attendance and grades for students will count during remote learning.
Grades K, 1st & 2nd do not regularly learn from a device at school. Teachers have been practicing and showing students some tips on how to sign on with their username and password and how to access Google Classroom. We will also be sending some supplemental materials and activities to pair with the teacher sessions and online learning. Supplies and materials we are sending home need to be kept in a safe place for daily learning. It is also important to keep things together for when we return to school. We will want devices, workbooks, textbooks and supplies to come back with each student. Thank you for your help with this.
The usage premium payment window is going to open up once again. This payment is $25, but protects your child’s device if it is damaged. As we shared at the start of the year a new screen can be expensive ($180 on average). This premium can pay for itself in the case of an accident. If you have not paid for this yet for your student, or your student is just being assigned a device we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Payments can be made via check or credit card (online) at the school buildings. If you have already paid for the premium, there is no need to do so again.
The district was able to secure a T-Mobile Project 10 Million grant. We have a limited number of devices available for families to be able to check out and utilize for your child’s work if you do not have reliable Internet at home. Please contact Tera Matz at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have already expressed a need through our survey you will hear from the district in the next few days in regards to next steps to pick up the hotspot.
Covid-19 Cases: As we move through the next few weeks it is still very important to monitor cases. We are asking that if you have an exposure to the virus it is communicated with the district. It is important for us to keep track of active cases and quarantines, especially as we progress towards a return to in-person learning in January.
Thank you for your support in this transition. If you need anything, our offices and buildings are still open. Please call us if you have questions or need assistance at 419-436-4125. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!
