Happenings Over the Summer
Global Citizens Club Goes to Costa Rica
Mrs. Battaglia, PRM Media Specialist and Advisor to the Global Citizens Club reported that the group "had an OUTSTANDING time!" She further reported that the culture, language, foods, and amazing setting were incredible! The students engaged in patrolling the beach for sea turtles and while enjoying it recognized that it was no "walk on the beach"! It was extremely physically challenging during the night where the students did their turtle searches in pitch blackness (light scares the turtles), loads of obstacles and debris that caused them to trip and fall, they experienced constant changing terrain (dips, hills and holes in the sand), pouring rain, blinding lightning, and biting sand fleas...but to this group of extreme volunteers it was worth every bit of it to see a turtle laying eggs, filling the nest with sand, then walking her back into the ocean...it was AMAZING!!! Our students did great! Mrs. Battaglia and her Global Citizens students will be spotlighted at one of the early Board of Education meetings, keep an eye out for the date.
