Evening of Excellence
Class of 2021
Congratulations
Congratulations again to all of our bulldogs!
English
Keegan Gibson
Keegan Gibson displays unique insight in every piece of writing. Approaching tasks with commitment to quality, he completes all assignments with uncommon attention to detail. This semester, he distinguished himself by going above and beyond in our research projects and in the way he gracefully worked with peers in group projects.
Monica Victoria Garcia Calderon
I’ve known Monica for two years, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to speak about her qualities here. Every day Monica arrived ready to ask questions and push herself to improve. She reads widely and was always a quiet leader in class, she modeled diligence and curiosity, inspiring others to read and think more deeply too. Her focus, no matter the day, was inspirational. Observing her growth as a writer was a delight and I am doubly-delighted to recognize Monica tonight.
World Language
Jair Marin-Padilla
Jair uses his knowledge of English and Spanish to support his emerging polyglot status French 2. He demonstrates an outgoing, determined, and thoughtful attitude in class. He supports his classmates with humor and language questions. Jair takes pride in performing above our language target goals in reading, speaking, listening and writing. His sincere and persistent efforts lead to his success as a engaged and motivated scholar. Jair's path towards global preparedness is supported by his linguistic skills, his natural curiosity about other Francophones, and his personal drive. I am excited to support him on his path to language and cultural proficiency! Bravo, Jair!
Maria Arrellano-Valencia:
Maria's strengths and skills would take more than a short blurb to enumerate. She possesses not only outstanding linguistic and global comprehension skills, but a personal drive to rise above the average student who takes only two years of language "because it's required." Maria employs her knowledge of English and Spanish to create meaning in listening and reading and communicate her ideas in writing and speaking. She continually provides assistance to her classmates and looks to "level up" on each performance task beyond the class standards. Her interest in Francophone cultureS include music, food, and school life. While we are still in French 2, Maria demonstrates the efforts of a fourth year student preparing for next year's AP class. Her grit and determination make her a class leader. She is an impressive global scholar who will use her multiple language skills in a future setting. Félicitations, Maria!

Esperanza Garcia is our departments representative for 10th grade girl. She was an easy choice to receive this award. Not only is she a very dedicated student, she is a wonderful friend. She has been seen helping her friends get to class and talking to them about positive choices. At least one of her teachers state that she keeps them on task. Esperanza literally means HOPE and she gives MVHS hope for the future. Thank you Esperanza.
Andrew Madrigal
Andrew Madrigal is a pleasure to have in class, a fierce friend, an athlete that does not give up and an all out joy to be around. He is a consistent student that may take a little extra time to answer the question or finish the assignment.
