Mountain Avenue Thursday Update

Arrive to School by 8:18

As a reminder, students must be inside their classrooms by 8:20 to be considered "on time" to school. Each morning, we have over 40-50 students arriving after 8:20. Please remember that our gates open at 7:45 am daily. We have supervision for students from 7:45 - 8:18. Students should be inside the gate by 8:18 so that they can walk to their class by 8:20.

Being on time is so important because our instructional day begins sharply at 8:20. We want to maximize the learning for your children and have no minutes of learning lost.

Thank you!

Behavior Expectations at School

Bear Family,

As we settle into our school year, we have started to see some student behaviors that we would like to address. In general, students are doing a fabulous job of following directions and being safe on campus. However, we would like your assistance in helping students remember our BEARS behavior expectations.

B - Be Kind

E - Encourage Others

A - Accept Responsibility

R - Respect others and be

S - Safe

Please take a moment to have a conversation with your child about what our BEARS Expectations really mean. On campus, our teaches are having similar conversations. We will be actively sharing positive behavior expectations with all students so that they are well supported in problem solving among peers.

Thank you!

School Site Council Meeting #1 Agenda

Appropriate Dress for School

With our warm weather, we are providing a friendly reminder of proper dress attire for students. Students should wear closed toe shoes, no flip flops or sandals. Stomachs should not be shown and shorts/skirts should be approximately finger-tip in length. All of our dress code policies can be found on page 19 of the Parent / Student handbook. Bottomline, dress for comfort and fun at school! Thank you!

Please, keep toys at home!

Please remind your children to not bring toys, such as Pokémon Cards, to school. We have a wealth of activities for students to participate in during recess and lunch breaks.

For Parents/Guardians of 4th - 6th Grade Students

Glendale Unified School District is collaborating with Panorama Education to develop a research-based survey for Grades 4-12 to gather actionable data on socioemotional learning at school sites. After careful review, the district chose the six topics below for the survey:

• Sense of belonging

• Safety

• Social awareness

• Self-efficacy

• Emotion regulation

• Growth mindset

The survey will be administered twice this year: once in the fall (September 27 – October 8, 2021) once in the spring (February 28 – March 11, 2022) to assess progress and growth.

Student-level data will be available to schools to better support specific student needs. The data will be used to inform the planning and interventions to ensure all students feel safe, welcome, and successful at their schools.

You may request to review the survey at your student’s school. If you do not want your student(s) to take the survey, you may opt out by sending a letter to his/her school. Please include your student’s full name, grade, and teacher or counselor name and be sure to sign the letter.

Please review this parent letter with all the info regarding the panorama survey parent/guardian letter .
