Term 2 - Week 8 - 2021
Principal Update
School Holidays
Just a reminder that school finishes for Term 2 on Friday 25 June. Students return to school on Tuesday 13 July. Staff only will attend on Monday 12 July for a school development day.
Queens Birthday Long Weekend
Queen's Birthday is celebrated on Monday, 14 June. This is a public holiday and school will not be open. We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your child/ren.
Book Club
Book Club flyers went out during last week (Issue 4). The last day for payments, either online or cash, to school is Friday 11 June, 2021 (Week 8). The quickest and easiest way to pay is to log onto the Scholastic website and place your orders through LOOP (instructions are on the order page). For cash payments, please ensure your child has the correct money and completed order form in the envelope with their name and a class clearly marked on the front.
Attendance
We understand that from time-to-time children get sick or there are emergencies that happen that may effect a child coming to school. The school and parents work together to ensure that children are at school every day so there is continuity in a child's learning.
It is important that if your child is away for any reason then a note needs to be given to the school on the day your child returns to school. Teachers follow up, with a phone call, any absences if a child is away from school after 2 days. If a child is away from school for 3 days or more a doctor's certificate is required to be given to the school.
It is also important that students are at school on time each day. School starts at 8.55am each day. If your child is late to school any day they will miss vital information about the day and the introduction of the lesson that is being taught. Any child that is late , up to 9.10am needs to go directly to the classroom and the teacher will mark the absence on the roll. If your child is later than 9.10am then the parent and the child need to report to the office. This will be marked on the roll by the office staff.
Accidents
There are times when a child is injured at school or injured during the weekend. If a child breaks an arm, leg or collarbone or seriously injures themselves and they have had to go to hospital to have it seen to by a medical specialist, there may be a need to alter their learning or playtime in some way. If this is the case a Return to School Risk Management form needs to be completed by the school. Parents need to see the office as the form needs to be jointly completed by the parent and Deputy Principal. If parents are concerned about their child's return to school after a serious injury they need to see the Deputy Principal who will advise on the steps that can be taken for a full return to school.
Cleaning in schools - Employment opportunities
Schools across NSW are still undergoing enhanced and day cleaning to ensure the safety of all students during the pandemic. As such, there are employment opportunities within the Department's cleaning contractors - ISS. The company is currently looking for additional cleaning staff. If you are interested you can contact ISS directly. Additionally, there is a pamphlet attached to the bottom of this newsletter.

Extracurricular activities at Berala PS - Art
This week we would like to showcase Art Space run by our fabulous teachers, Ms Kopkoson and Ms Kwong. These teachers use many of their lunch breaks to provide additional opportunities for our students. Here are some images from Art Space that were during Simultaneous Storytime. The spaceships were made by students in both Stage 1 and Stage 2.
We are so lucky that many of our teachers give up their break times to provide these occasions for your children. We would like to thank all of the teachers involved for providing these events for our students at Berala PS.
