Weekly update for the Meadows Elementary School community

Week Three of Distance Learning 8/31-9/4

Good Evening Meadows Families,

Our students are doing a great job. It's clear our families are understanding the rhythm of the day in distance learning. Great job! Thank you to our parents for attending our virtual events last week, from "Coffee with the Principal" to our NSD Board Presentation titled a "Year in Review", our School Site Plan. If you saw the presentation, you learned that at Meadows, we lead with our "heart". Our focus will be on the social-emotional wellness and mental health of our students at the next parents' "Coffee with the Principal".

Our green trees are starting to fill up our community-wide art project and bulletin board! Some of the trees that have stood out include one with superheroes, another with dried flowers, and one with written words about how they will take this year to new heights. Your children's creativity is inspiring! We have a box out in front of the school and look forward to seeing them.

If you did not pick up your materials and workbooks, please contact the school to arrange for a pick up time. For health, safety and security purposes, we are encouraging all of our families to make appointments with us before coming to campus. We are in the office from 7:30am-4:00pm, and you can call us directly to speak with staff during those hours or email us.

Please reach out with any questions, we are here to support our community. And, we hope that you have a great week!

Attendance Counts Every Day

Attendance is very important to us. Please make sure your child is attending every Google Meet and completing class assignments. If your child is not attending class to report the absence, please make a call to the front office or send an email to us. Let the teacher know but it is our main office that records the absences. You can email snecessary@newhallsd.com about any absences. If you saw our School Site Plan presentation, one of our goals this year is to improve our daily attendance rate. Every minute, every assignment, every day, and every effort counts.

If we see that a child is absent for one day and we have not heard from the family, we will follow up with every child and parent. This means a phone call or email message from the teacher, email or phone call from our office and sometimes a phone call from the principal. I care about every child and family and their safety and wellness is my priority. Please make sure to report the absence to us.

School Site Council Parent Openings

Dear Parents,

School Site Council is an advisory group for our school comprised of parents, teachers, and classified staff. Responsibilities include reviewing specific budgets and giving advice on academic programs. The School Site Council meets around six times a year on Mondays with the meetings being held (via zoom currently) and normally, in the office staff lounge after school from 3:00 p.m. to around 4:30 p.m. This advisory group often has experience with PTSA or other child orientated organizations. For the upcoming election there is two parental vacancies on the council. It is really a wonderful opportunity to contribute to your child’s school.

The elections for this vacancy will be held by a ballot that will be sent out via google form. A family gets a vote for every child who attends our school (two children means two votes). Candidates for the position will be required to write a short biography that is submitted to Principal for publication on the ballot. The voting will be monitored by current Site Council members. The elected new members will be expected to attend a meeting at our site council meeting on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.

If you are interested in membership on Site Council, or you simply have a question, do not hesitate to call the school and ask to speak with me. If you would like your name placed on the ballot, please copy the information below and email to Principal, Juliet Fine at jfine@newhallsd.com. Nominations for the vacancy close on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. A member from the nominating committee (or the principal) will contact you about your SHORT bio-paragraph should you choose to run for the office.

Sincerely,

Juliet Fine

Principal
