Dear Parents,
I will begin with Announcements:
1. Tomorrow Friday is "Pay to Dress" day. This means you can pay 2.00 for your child to be out of uniform. The money goes towards our orphans that we support as a school and also live in Mexico.
2. Monday we will not have classes! Labor Day!
3. Please remember to fill out your Parent Survey that I sent home in your child's folder on the first day of school. It is urgent we get it by Tuesday.
4. Children need to bring a blanket and small stuffed toy for nap(optional). Place in a small garbage bag that can stay in their cubbie all week. On Fridays, we will send the blankets home to be laundered.
5. All girls need to wear shorts under their skirts. It is a school rule.
6. Some children are eating their lunch for breakfast. If you can place their breakfast items in a ziplock bag each day so they know that is breakfast snack, it would be greatly appreciated.
A big thank you for putting up with our carpool sign-in an sign-out routine. It will go faster as we recognize your cars! You have been very understanding about the fact that we are required to have individual sign-in sheets for each student. It cannot be a class list.
Discipline Plan has begun: We had small group lessons on explaining our discipline plan to the children. Basically it is a happy smile, a smirk and a sad face that we use in three colors. (red-sad, yellow-o.K., and green-happy) We will give them a face during the day if they are not respectful with teachers and friends. Everyone starts at happy but as the day progresses they may get a yellow(warning) and they might wind up with a red(sad) face if they continue to break the kindness rules. They are very happy to receive a sticker on their individual chart at the end of the day if they were at yellow or green. When they have 5 stickers in a row, we let them go to the treasure box for a treat!
This week we continued with colors red, yellow and green in Spanish. We also worked on church behavior. Our new priest invited Pre-K 4 only to Mass to see if they could behave. We only had to remove one child that insisted on leaving and was getting upset with the teachers. The rest were pretty well-behaved.
Respectfulness and obedience are our two major goals for the month of September. This month we will give an award at Church for the most Kind-hearted children. Kindness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Please read books to your children about kindness and being respectful with friends and teachers.
Have a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, Sra. Farias y Sra. Raquel
